Former champions will be out to recreate the final of season 7. Dabang Delhi had lost the title to the Warriors in 2019 by a margin of 5 points. Both teams have come a long way since then. The Warriors are placed 4th in the points table while Delhi is feeling the heat at the 10th spot after playing 5 matches.
Delhi got smashed by the Puneri Paltan in their last match. The absence of Naveen Kumar was quite evident as Dabang could not generate the pace. Captain Ashu Malik scored 9 points but the supporting raiders could not earn much. The Delhi defense was fragile as they lost the match by 7 points. The Bengal Warriors lost a close match to arch-rivals U Mumba. This was a tough game for Bengal as ran out of time in the second half. They could have forced a TIE but instead lost the match by 2 points. Young defender Harsh Lad was super impressive as he scored 8 tackle points from 11 attempts.
This will be an interesting encounter as Dabang Delhi will hope that Naveen returns. They will be up against a young and energetic Bengal defense apart from mighty Maninder Singh.
The Bengal Warriors have been impressive in this season. Captain Maninder Singh has led from the front. With a group of talented youngsters, the Warriors have won 3 out of their 6 games. They have also forced a TIE in 2 other matches. Hence they are placed 4th in the points table with 21 points. Bengal has the maximum TIED games this season, viz against the Jaipur Pink Panthers and the UP Yodha.
Maninder Singh has been in superlative form. He has earned 61 raid points from 46 successful raids which includes 3 Super 10’s and 4 Super raids. Maninder has surprised the opposition on most occasion with his daring antics which usually come in the second half. Apart from raider Srikant Jadhav, Nitin Kumar has emerged as a dangerous customer. Both Srikant and Nitin have complemented Maninder resulting in the Bengal Warriors scoring at an efficiency of 17.5 successful raids per match.
Bengal Warriors were worried about their defense as it consisted of young defenders. Coach K Bhaskaran would have thought that his team would leak too many points in tackles. But the young Bengal brigade has stunned every team with a success rate of 38% in team tackles. Right corner Shubham Shinde has been deadly with his tackles with 24 successful tackles in 7 matches. He has been supported nicely by defenders Darpan and Aditya Shinde. Though right cover Vaibhav Garje has been inconsistent, young defender Harsh Lad blasted U Mumba raiders in the last match with 8 tackle points in 11 attempts. Though Bengal lost the match, they will be confident about their defense.
Bengal Warriors have won 8 out their 19 encounters with Dabang Delhi. Both teams are tenacious and don’t give up easily. That’s the reason they have TIED 4 out of their 19 matches. But the Bengal Warriors will be look to bulldoze Dabang Delhi in the absence of Naveen Kumar.
Former champions had a lukewarm start to the season as they fumbled in their first match. Dabang Delhi were outwitted by Tamil Thalaiva. But, captain Naveen Kumar and company had other plans as they avenged this defeat by thrashing the Bengaluru Bulls. Dabang won that match by a margin of 7 points thus setting up the northern derby clash with Haryana Steelers. But the absence of Naveen Kumar hurt them badly in their last match against the Puneri Paltan. Naveen’s absence is a big blow for the former champions. Ashu Malik led the side against the Puneri Paltan. He scored 9 raid points but support raiders Meetu Sharma and Manjeet could not set the mat on fire.
Right corner Yogesh and Himmat Antil tried hard but could not get enough support from their teammates to execute successful tackles. With just 6 tackle points in the match, it was difficult for Dabang Delhi to breach the Puneri fortress. Dabang Delhi need to look past Naveen Kumar who has scored almost 75% of teams raid points over the years. Dabang had a similar issue last year when Naveen was injured mid-way through the season. They struggled in his absence.
They will be up against familiar opponents, the Bengal Warriors. With an inexperienced defense, it will be an uphill task for Dabang Delhi to trap mighty Maninder Singh. Dabang Delhi have the highest success rate in team tackle but that is due to Naveen Kumar. They seem to be out of options if he is not around. Delhi has a success rate of just 31% in team tackles which is the lowest among all the team. This is the reason Dabang Delhi is stranded at the 10th spot in the points table.
Delhi has always given a tough fight to the Bengal Warriors. They have forced a TIE in 4 games out of their 19 matches. But Delhi could not beat the Warriors last year and this will be a big game for them. Delhi will sincerely hope that Naveen Kumar is back. This will be a psychological boost for them, else it may lead to another thrashing from the Bengal Warriors.
Welcome to the repeat of the finals of season 7 as former champions clash in Chennai. Dabang Delhi has a lot of problems to sort. Naveen Kumar may not be available for this encounter and Dabang will feel the pressure. Captain Ashu Singh will score a Super 10 but he will not get enough support from the other raiders. Right corner Yogesh and left cover Himmat Antil will tackle successfully in the first half but the Delhi defense may lose its steam post half-time. Bengal Warriors will exploit this situation. Captain Maninder as well as one of the support raiders will score a Super 10.
Right corner Shubham Shinde and defender Harsh Lad will be ruthless on Dabang Delhi. Bengal may inflict an all-out very early in the first half and they may end up doing this thrice in the whole match. Right raider Nitin Kumar will impress along with his captain. This may be a high scoring match for the Bengal Warriors as they will trounce Dabang Delhi quite easily. But the match will witness a different outcome if Naveen Kumar is back on the mat.
Bengal Warriors will win.
