The east west rivalry will be on display as the Bengal Warriors take on the Gujarat Giants. The Giants are placed 5th in the points table while the Bengal Warriors are at the 9th spot. But the Warriors still have another 5 matches including the one against Gujarat. Will they be able to accelerate in the last lap to overtake some of the teams? The Warriors got a boost in their last match as they took down Dabang Delhi. Captain Maninder Singh and young raider Nitin Kumar scored a Super 10 each to knock out Delhi. This is what the Bengal Warriors are capable of. But the question is about their consistency. Gujarat Giants too have been inconsistent in the last couple of weeks.

They have won just 2 out of their last 5 matches. They defeated the Tamil Thalaiva in their last match which was an impressive performance. With just 3 more league games remaining for them, they need to win each match with a huge margin so that they can qualify for the next round. At least 4 other teams are waiting to overtake the Giants in the points table. Hence this encounter will be a DoD for both teams.

Bengal Warriors Preview

Former champions Bengal Warriors are witnessing a drop in intensity mid-season. After winning 7 out of their 17 matches, they are placed at the 9th spot in the points table. They still have an outside chance to move into the next round with 5 more league games. This will be the biggest test for the Warriors as their fans are expecting them to make a cryogenic comeback. Bengal defeated Dabang Delhi in their last match. This was a powerful performance by their raiders as Maninder and Nitin scored a Super 10 each. Both these raiders had failed earlier in their first bout with Dabang Delhi which the Bengal Warriors had lost. But revenge was on their mind as the Warriors came back from a 6 point deficit at half-time to score 30 team points in the last 20 minutes. Such was the intensity of the Bengal Warriors that they inflicted 3 all-outs in the second half to send Dabang Delhi into orbit. The Bengal defense was ruthless in the second half as Vaibhav Garje, Akshay Kumar, Jaskeerat and Shubham Shinde trapped precisely.

The Bengal Warriors have the best defense in the tournament, but they suffer whenever their opponents are able to trap Maninder Singh. This reduces their raiding efficiency and they either lose the match or settle for a TIE. The Bengal Warriors need to rejuvenate themselves. They have the best defender on the circuit in the form of Shubham Shinde.

He has executed 53 successful tackles in 17 matches.

Captain Maninder Singh has earned 157 raid points from 121 successful raids. This includes 8 Super 10’s.

Their success rate in team raids is about 41% while their efficiency in team tackles has dropped to 37%. They just need to garnish this will some aggression and consistency.

The Bengal Warriors have to be careful as they take on the Gujarat Giants. Since their opponents are led by the shrewd Fazel Attrachali, the Warriors cannot afford any blemish during the match. They cannot run out of gas and team Bengal has to be proactive in adapting to the tactical changes initiated by the Giants. Fortunately, Bengal Warriors beat Gujarat convincingly twice last year. But this year the Giants are in red-hot form and it will be one of the best matches of 2024 as Bengal will hope to beat their western rivals.

Gujarat Giants Preview

Stealthy Gujarat Giants seem to have a lot of tricks up their sleeve. With Captain Fazel Attrachali at the helm of affairs, the Giants are placed 5th in the points table after playing 18 matches. Gujarat has employed the hit and run tactic since their first match. Apart from varying the pace of the game, the Giants have shocked their opponents with surprises.

But the Gujarat Giants have their own weaknesses, especially in their raiding. This has affected them in the last few matches. Raider Sonu spearheaded the attack in the first few matches. As he was decoded, Gujarat unleashed Rakesh as their main raider. They have also used Prateek Dahiya for their raiding purposes. But the trio has been part of each starting 7 which shows that the Gujarat Giants have not been able to assign proper roles to this trio just like the Puneri Paltan have done with their raiders.

Though Rakesh scored a Super 10 in the last match as the Gujarat Giants defeated the aggressive Tamil Thalaiva. All-rounder Rohit Gulia was impressive with his raids as well as his assists in defense. Defenders Sombir and Fazel Attrachali were at their hunting best as they scored 9 tackle points between them. Gujarat intensified their tackles in the second half to knock out the Thalaiva by a margin of 12 points. This victory will help them regroup and recharge for their remaining matches.

With a 42% success rate in team tackles, Gujarat needs to improve its raiding success rate which is around 35%. But whenever Gujarat has a problem in earning via raids, they go back to their defensive style of operations. They slow down the game with empty raids as they fall back on the do-or-die raiding strategy. With the most successful defender in the history of PKL as their captain, Gujarat generally succeed with this plan.

They will be up against the Bengal Warriors who have slowed down in the last few matches. But handling Maninder Singh will be the biggest challenge for the Gujarat Giants. Their raiders will have to avoid Bengal defenders Shubham Shinde and Vaibhav Garje. The Giants were able to defeat the Warriors in their first meeting of season 10. This was a high scoring match which saw a total of 93 points being scored.  Gujarat Giants will be able to tame the Warriors if they can keep Maninder Singh off the mat through the match.

Welcome to the first match at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata as the home team, Bengal Warriors takes on Gujarat Giants. The Warriors will be fresh from their huge victory over Dabang Delhi. Captain Maninder will hope to repeat the same. He and Nitin Kumar will be aggressive as one of them will score a Super 10. The Bengal defense has re-ignited itself. Vaibhav Garje and Shubham Shinde will be precise but new faces like Jaskeerat and Askhay Kumar will trouble the Gujarat raiders.

The Giants will have an issue with their raiding as the Bengal defense is quite strong. Hence Gujarat will go back to their old style of playing slowly. Defenders Sombir and Fazel will be able to counter Bengal Captain Maninder but not throughout the match. A lot will depend on defenders Balaji and Dipak Singh. This will be a face-off between the defense of both teams. But the Bengal raiders have a slight advantage which will prove to be the difference between the teams.

Haryana Steelers will win.
