Patna Pirate fans have been forced to swallow a bitter pill as their team is still in search of its first victory of the season. 3-time champions, Pirates are a shadow of the past as they struggle to trap their opponents. Patna was forced to settle for a TIE with the Puneri Paltan and then they lost to Jaipur Pink Panthers. Their next heartbreak was against the Telegu Titans to whom they lost by 9 points. A brittle defense has been their major concern.
Bengal Warriors are much better placed as they seem to have found their form. Raider Maninder Singh continues his good form with 29 raid points including 2 Super raids. Left corner Girish Ernak has proved his worth once again with 14 successful tackles in 3 games. Flamboyant Iranian left corner Mohammedreza is back in the squad and he will add some spice to the Warrior's defense.
After a forgetful season 8, the Warriors are back to winning ways. After a sedate start where they lost to Haryana Steelers in their opener, the Bengal Warriors have readjusted to the new environment. Fortunately, raider Maninder Singh and left corner Girish Ernak have been in top form.
Warriors have plenty of options. In their first game, all-rounder Manoj Gowda was lethal, while all-rounder Deepak Hooda has proved his mettle with 10 points in 3 games. Raider Shrikant Jadhav has given good support while raiders like Aslam Thambi, Akash Pikalmunde are waiting for their opportunity.
Defense seems to be the biggest asset for the Warriors. All-rounders Vaibhav Garje, D Balaji, and right corner Shubham Shinde have earned or assisted consistently. The defense proved their worth against the Bengaluru Bulls as they earned 8 tackle points in the second half of the match while the raiders got the Bulls all out twice in the second half.
Bengal Warriors have a balanced squad and they seem to be planning ahead for the long season. They have several options for that crucial left corner position and they have good raiders in their reserves. Raider Maninder Singh will have to be careful about freak injuries as this season has already seen the fall of Pawan Sehrawat and Rajneesh.
The Warriors do not enjoy a great record against the Pirates as they have been able to win only 4 out of their 19 games. This is the season for payback for the Warriors.
3-time champions Patna Pirates find themselves at the wrong end of the stick. They have more or less the same players who were part of the season 8 journey. But form seems to be eluding them this season. It is hard to believe that the Pirates are yet to win a game this season. Coach Ravi Shetty needs to restructure his team combination at the earliest.
Patna Pirates have conceded 4 all-outs in 3 games even though they have a decent success rate in raids and tackles. They have been guilty of advanced tackles as well as falling prey to surprise attacks by opponents.
Raiders Sachin Tanwar and Rohit Gulia have scored 44 raid points together in 3 games but their earnings need to improve drastically. Right Corner Sunil is the only defender in the top 10 list with 9 successful tackles in 3 games. These statistics do not augur well for the Pirates.
The Pirates need to relook at the way they pace the game. They had to settle for a TIE against the Puneri Paltan as they were slow to take off. Their defense crumbled against the Jaipur Pink Panthers even though raiders Sachin and Rohit both scored Super 10’s. Their biggest embarrassment was against the erratic Telegu Titans where they could not even match the scoring rate and lost by 9 points.
Patna Pirates have enjoyed a lot of success on the mat, but this season seems to be a game of thorns for them. They enjoy a healthy record against the Bengal Warriors but this time their defense seems to be lethargic and erratic. They will need some special plans to trap Maninder Singh who is like a raging Bull on the mat. The Pirate defense will have to improve urgently if they want to support their raiders. Even if they can’t hunt down Maninder and company, they need to at least reduce their unforced errors and slow the pace of the game.
Bengal Warriors are much better placed in this encounter against the Pirates. Raid machine Maninder Singh is unstoppable while the Warriors defense stands tall like a rock of Gibraltar. Left corner Girish Ernak has played a major role in making this defense very strong. Vaibhav Garje and Shubham Shinde will look to trap Sachin Tanwar early in the first half and keep him off the mat for long durations. The Bengal raiders will exploit the brittle Patna defense to take an early lead in the first half. Patna Pirates have been slow starters this season which has led them to panic.
Patna Pirates need to reboot immediately as they have to hatch plans to stop Maninder Singh. This will be a huge burden on defenders like Neeraj Kumar, Sunil, and Abdul Insamaam. If the left corner Mohammedreza is not fluid in this approach, he may be replaced by Girish Ernak. Captain Neeraj Kumar will be the key to reviving the Patna defense as well as their fortunes. He was one of the best defenders of season 8, but he hasn't been in the best of form this season. But this will be the match where Patna Pirates may break down to rise like a phoenix from the ashes.
Bengal Warriors will win.
