The defending champions and the Tamil Thalaiva are stationed at the bottom of the table. Both teams took off mid-season but ran out of fuel. Tamil Thalaiva have lost 5 consecutive games while the Bengal Warriors have not been able to win any of their last 5 matches. The major reason for this burn out was their defence heavy tactics. Both teams concentrated more on playing defenders but this plan did not work. Even though King Maninder Singh has been in top form throughout the season, the Warriors could not exploit it. Similarly the Thalaiva has 2 of the best defenders on the circuit, still they could not win games. With the league stage in its final lap, both teams will play for pride as both cannot make it to the play-offs. Their mandate would be to entertain their fans and enjoy their mat time. Sagar and Surjeet have been phenomenal defender through the season and they would like to end with a victory for their team. Maninder Singh will look forward to finish the season on a high with a victory for his team. Both teams tried hard but it is time that they play for their fans.

Bengal Warriors Preview

The defending champions are completely out of sorts this season. They became very predictable early on and the opposition teams were able to attack them at will. Expect for their captain Maninder, nothing has gone right for the Warriors. If their last few matches were any indication, the Warriors are not able to repair the damage done to their ship.

Initially it was predicted that Maninder may have fitness issues but he has not looked back since their first match. It is their defence which has let them down time and again. They have conceded 715 points in 20 matches which is quite expensive.

Though they have executed 13 Super raids this season they have also conceded 24 all outs. This has constantly kept them behind their opposition in this tournament. King Maninder has earned 237 points from 175 successful raids. The Warriors lost to U Mumba by 10 points in their last game. They started off well dominating the first half but ran out of steam and succumbed to the pressure of Maninder staying out for almost 20 mins. They have started using new players like Manoj Gowda and Rohit but this has come too late in the season. Before this game, the Warriors had to settle for TIE’s with the Telegu Titans and Dabang Delhi. They beat the Thalaiva by 9 points when they met them last month. With a dead end at the end of the league stage, the Warriors will look forward to give opportunities to untried players and enjoy their mat-time.

Tamil Thalaivas Preview

The Thalaiva fans will be disappointed to see their team placed 10th in the points table after 20 games. The Thalaiva started off slowly with a few Tied games but they looked very strong mid-season. It was the pair of defenders Sagar and Surjeet who hunted down opposition raiders. This took the Thalaiva in the top 5 in the month of January. But they did not adapt to the changing scenario and stuck to a rigid defence heavy plan which backfired. They have slipped steadily in the last few games and they have reached a dead end.  Raider Manjeet has earned 154 raid points in 19 matches and he got good support from Prapanjan, MS Athul, Bhavani Rajput and Ajinkya Pawar. Prapanjan was injured and could not play at all. Hence it is difficult to digest that the Thalaiva could not exploit the fact that they had good raiders and excellent defenders. They have lost their last 5 games as they look burned out. They lost to the Puneri Paltan yesterday by 12points. They were completely fatigued in the second half. Hence this is the end of the road for the Thalaiva.

The good news for them is that they will be taking the Bengal Warriors who look equally fatigued. Hence this will be a contest between fatigued defenders. The Tamil Thalaiva’s used some of their reserve players against the Puneri Palatan. Raider Himanshu and Sahil Gulia got some mat time. The team management will like to use these reserve players against the Warriors. They will have to keep Maninder off the mat for long durations in order to create panic in the Warriors camp. This will be an interesting match with both teams trying to squeeze a consolation win.

Both the teams are moving towards a dead end as the league stage culminates. Both teams look fatigued as well as looking for a consolation win. Defending Champions Bengal Warriors will not be able to defend their title this time. The Thalaiva looked like a lethal combination mid-season, but their sword has lost its sheen and sharpness. This will be a contest of unforced errors. Though the Warriors have raider Maninder Singh, the Thalaiva have the best pair of defenders in Sagar and Surjeet. It will be interesting to see if the Thalaiva continue with their reserve raiders as they did against the Puneri Paltan yesterday. Abozar Meghani and Ran Singh will try and work overtime to leave the season on a high. This will be a face-off between Maninder Singh and Sagar/ Surjeet combo.

This will be a TIE.
