Pardeep Narwal captured the imagination of all kabaddi fans in his debut season itself and has continued to perform better every season. He is capable of decimating any opposition on any given day, and that is the way UP Yodha will approach this season. 

On the other hand, defending champions Bengal Warriors have continued to brew the recipe for success, good raiding party, international flavour and a mix of spicy defence.

Maninder Singh, Rishank Devadiga and Sukesh Hegde form a formidable raiding party. Abozar Mighani, Rinku Narwal and Nabibaksh form an impregnable defence. 

Warriors would look forward to starting their campaign with a win, using the same formula that worked for them last season. UP Yodha will be expecting “Dubki” specialist Pardeep Narwal to clone the same story that he weaved for Patna Pirates.

Bengal Warriors Preview

Bengal warriors came into this season with a tag of chokers in big match situations. They made it to the play offs for 2 consecutive seasons but failed to nail the big matches. But they surprised all other teams in the group stages when their lesser known players stuck together and contributed to the needs of the team. What worked for the warriors was team spirit.  With their star captain Maninder leading the way, experienced players like Sukesh Hegde and Jeeva strengthened their defence thus allowing players like Prapanjan, Nabibaksh and others to wreck havoc in the opposition camp. This was the story of the last season.

The most impressive component for the warriors is their captain Maninder with 205 raid points in 20 games last season.  Improved fitness, exceptional leadership and supporting role as the 3rd raider helped the warriors ransack their opponents.

With Rishank Devadiga and Sukesh Hedge, the Warriors will be scoring at will. Their defence has an international flavour with Abozar Mighani and Nabibaksh at the helm of affairs. No wonder, the warriors have 100 super tackles and 140 all out’s to date.  Their raiding has an average of 42% success rate. 

Areas of improvement - Stealing bonus points, reducing empty raids and maintaining the fitness of their top stars.

U.P. Yoddha Preview

Yodha’s have roped in the best of the best- Dubki king Pardeep Narwal this season. They hope to taste success with his tried and tested style of kabaddi. Pardeep Narwal has also proved time and again that he is a spicy raider, complicated to stop and highly consistent. He is also known to rally youngsters around him to create a formidable unit.

He has an entire brigade of young raiders like Srikant Jadhav, Surender Gill, Sahil, Rohit Tomar, Gulveer Singh along with Iranian Mohammad Taghi and Kenyan James Kamveti.

Their defence looks a bit weak with not many known faces. Also they do not have many all rounder’s for different situations.  They have been consistent over the years, but missing the X factor. Pardeep Narwal seems to be the answer to their unanswered questions. 

They have a decent 43% successful raids record with a healthy 39% successful tackles.

Areas of improvement- Steal more bonus points, increase super tackles and inflict more all outs.

● First man to score 100 points in PKL, with over 50 super raids, holds the record for most super raids.

● Shrikant Jadhav with overall 148 raid points will be a good support for Pardeep Narwal. 

● As a team, they have 39 super raids and 66 super tackles.

● Rely heavily on raids, attack is the best form of defence for them.

Winning Prediction

The defending champions have a well knit unit and the perfect balance to repeat their past performance. They will look to attack from the first minute itself as well as try and neutralize Pardeep Narwal right at the beginning. They have multiple options for that all important left corner and their defence is bolstered by the huge Abozar Mighani.

But not many can stop the calm and cool Pardeep Narwal who is known to improvise and design his escape from any type of defence. With support from Shrikant Jadhav in raiding and a young defence, Yodha’s might just upset the defending champions at the start of a brand new season.
