Welcome the first eliminator of season 10 which actually looks like a virtual final. Former champions Dabang Delhi take on 3 time champion Patna Pirates. Both teams have gone through an interesting journey. Dabang Delhi has been consistent while the Patna Pirates made a last minute effort to qualify for the eliminators. Dabang Delhi overcame the injury and unavailability of Naveen Kumar as young captain Ashu Malik punched above his weight. The Patna Pirates could not weave the raiding magic of the past. But somehow they managed to win matches on the basis of team work. 

The Pirates have not defeated Delhi in this season. But they came close in both their league games. They lost their first league game by just 1 point while they were able to force a TIE in their second. Hence Dabang Delhi needs to be careful against their uncanny opponents. Former champions have been on a dream run this season. With Naveen Kumar leading the side in the first few weeks, they looked invincible. But a freak injury to Naveen cut short his journey as young Ashu Malik took the reins of captaincy. But Ashu Malik has been the star of the season as he has the best strike rate in raiding. He has earned 257 raid points which includes 14 Super 10’s. He has been like a one man army for Dabang Delhi. Ashu scored 17 points in the last match against Bengaluru Bulls. Unfortunately, he hasn’t got enough support from other raiders. This is the biggest weakness for Dabang Delhi. 

With a raiding efficiency of 40%, it will be interesting to see how Delhi handles the Patna Pirates. But the young Delhi defense has been impressive. They have compensated for the lack of raiding income. Young defenders Yogesh and Ashish have been phenomenal. Both has collectively executed 111 successful tackles this season. Dabang has used veteran Vishal Bharadwaj tactically. Defender Vikrant has also impressed in most games. Hence this trio of young defenders will be key to Dabang Delhi’s success. 

Though Dabang Delhi lost 6 matches in the season, they were also force to settle for 3 TIED games. But overall, Dabang was able to maintain a good consistency. They had a tough time against the Tamil Thalaiva in their penultimate league match which they won by 2 points. Their last league match was a cake walk as they hammered the Bengaluru Bulls. Ashu Malik scored 17 points while defenders Yogesh and Vishal Bharadwaj scored a Hi 5 each. The Delhi defense has also executed 33 all-outs in 22 matches. The eliminator will be their toughest test of season 10. Dabang Delhi has struggled against the Pirates. They won their first league game against Patna by just 1 point and had to settle for a TIE in their next. Overall, Dabang Delhi has won 9 out of their 19 matches. Hence Delhi has to be careful against the Pirates. 

This match will also test Ashu Malik’s captaincy as well as Dabang’s tactical brilliance. Their support raiders will have to play an important role and complement their captain. Delhi has been through tough situations in this season and they have a slight edge over their opponents.

Patna Pirates Preview

3 time champions Patna Pirates made a daring comeback in the last 2 weeks of the season to reach the 6th spot in the points table. This helped them overtake teams like Tamil Thalaiva and squeeze into the next round. The major reason for their comeback was the way their raiders performed. Sachin Tanwar was out of form in the first 4 weeks of the tournament. But with the inclusion of raider M Sudhakar and Sandeep Kumar, the Pirates were able to turn the tide. Sachin Tanwar was able to score 157 points in 20 matches while Sandeep Kumar has earned 78 points in 18 matches. This has allowed the Pirates to be aggressive.

The Patna defense is quite inexperienced and they paid the price for this in the early stages of the season. Defender Krishnan along with all-rounder Ankit have kept them alive with their precise tackles. Krishnan has executed 68 successful tackles and he is just behind the leader Mohammedreza who had executed 90 successful tackles in 22 matches. Ankit has been a blessing for Patna as he has resonated with Krishnan. The weak link are the other 2 defenders. Though Patna has used the services of Mayur Kadam, they are still short of another in form defender.

Patna has a success rate of about 40% in team tackles. They need punch above their weight in this department. Their efficiency in team raids has improved to about 38%. Hence the Pirates have all the ammunition needed to take on Dabang Delhi. Patna won 3 back to back matches only to lose their last league match to the Haryana Steelers. But they have gathered enough points to squeeze into the next round. 

Patna Pirates have generally troubled Dabang Delhi. They have won 8 out of their 19 matches against Delhi. But they could not beat them even once in this season. They lost their first league match by just 1 point to Dabang Delhi. They managed to force a TIE in their next. But this indicates that they lacked the killer punch in the dying moments of the match. Welcome the street fight as Dabang Delhi takes on the Patna Pirates in the first eliminator of the season. Dabang and Patna have been through very contrasting journey’s this season. Delhi will hope to make it to the semi-finals without their star player Naveen Kumar. Captain Ashu Malik will lead the side and he will score a Super 10 too. The supporting raiders of Dabang Delhi may just disappoint.  A lot will depend on how defenders Yogesh and Ashish will perform. Delhi also has the option of veteran Vishal Bharadwaj. One of their defenders will score a Hi 5, but Delhi may find it difficult to regulate the Patna raiders. 

The Pirates will use the raiding trio of Sachin Tanwar, Sandeep Singh and M Sudhakar. Defenders Krishnan and Ankit will target the supporting raiders of Dabang Delhi. The first half may be slow, but the street fight will begin post half-time. This will test the consistency of the Patna defense. Both teams will leak points due to unforced errors. This will be a face-off between Ashu Malik and the trio of Sachin, Sandeep and Sudhakar. If Ashu Malik is not able to match the Patna trio, Delhi will be in trouble. Though Delhi finished 3rd in the points table, they will have a tough time against the rejuvenated Patna Pirates.
