Gujarat Giants and UP Yoddhas battle out in the 74th match of Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 on Thursday, 9th October. The match is slated to be played at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai and the scheduled start time is 9:00 PM IST.

Current Standings: UP Yoddhas currently stand at 9th place on the points table with 8 points in 12 matches (4 wins & losses), while the Gujarat Giants are at 10th place with 6 points in 11 matches (3 wins & 8 losses).

Gujarat Giants Preview

Gujarat Giants head into this contest on the back of a colossal 47-40, seven-point win over the Bengal Warriors in the last match, where the Giants led from the start, scoring a record 31 points in the first half, the most by any team in a single half in PKL history. Rakesh Sangroya scored a career-high 18 raid points, while Mohammadreza Shadloui stepped in with a High 5.

The Giants have been abysmal on the offensive end this season, where they have managed to score a mere 17 raid points per game, the least amongst the 12 teams this season, and most of the scoring has been done by Rakesh Sangroya, who has scored 80 raid points in 11 matches.

On the defensive end, they haven't been great either despite having one of the best defenders in the league, who has had his worst season in his PKL career. As a result, the Giants are ranked 8th on defense, averaging 10 tackle points per game. With seven games left in the season, the Giants need to win at least five of them to sneak through into the top 8.

U.P. Yoddha Preview

UP Yoddhas, who started their season with a bang, haven't been at their best in the last six matches, where they have lost five of them, with their latest being a 28-36, 8-point loss at the hands of the Patna Pirates. Once again, they have been inconsistent and inefficient on both offense and defense, leading to their downfall.

The Yoddhas are ranked 6th on offense this season, scoring close to 21 raid points per game. They have some of the best tall raiders in the league, but still, they haven't been able to completely dominate against their opponents. Gagan Gowda has been their main raider with 111 raid points, while Bhavani Rajput has scored 60 raid points.

On the defensive end, it has been a major issue for the Yoddhas, especially the right corner who has leaked points at crucial stages of the game. They are currently ranked 10th on defense this season, averaging 9 tackle points per game. Sumit Sangwan has been the standout with 35 tackle points in 12 matches, where he is averaging close to three tackle points per game.

Two bottom-placed teams battling for the 8th spot on the table: it is a must-win game for both the teams, and both of them have been abysmal on both ends of the mat. Expect a close contest, where we back the UP Yoddhas to end their four-match losing streak and win this match.
