Welcome to the fight between the young brigade of PKL as the Gujarat Giants take on the Haryana Steelers. Both teams have their own unique flavor. Gujarat Giants are placed 2nd in the points table after playing 5 matches but they have lost consecutive games. Haryana Steelers had a few hiccups at the beginning of the season but they have registered a hat-trick of victories in the last few weeks.

The Steelers surprised everyone when they defeated the Puneri Paltan on their home turf. The Gujarat Giants lost a close encounter to the Jaipur Pink Panthers. Both teams have fantastic raiders while their defense seems to be equally strong. Unfortunately the Haryana defense has struggled once in a while as their success rate in team tackles is just 31% which is the lowest among all teams. On the other hand, the Gujarat raiders have executed 4 Super raids apart from their defenders inflicting 6 all-outs in 5 matches.

This will be a face-off between young raiders Arjun Deshwal and Sonu. It will be one of the most entertaining matches of the league as Haryana captain Jaideep Dahiya will match every move by Gujarat captain Fazel Attrachali.

Haryana Steelers Preview

listless against the UP Yodha in their opening bout as they lost the match by a margin of 30 points. But they have won 3 back to back games in a short span to recover from their early losses. The Steelers surprised everyone as they defeated the Puneri Paltan in their last match. Raider Vinay was sublime while defenders Ashish and Rahul Sethpal were lethal.

Haryana trailed at half-time but they matched the speed and moves of the Puneri Paltan and stayed in contention. As usual, they pounced on the opportunity in the next 10 minutes post half-time to set panic in the Puneri camp. The Steelers scored 23 team points in the second half to run away with the match. This was due to their aggressive raiding as well as lethal tackles.

Coach Manpreet was animated through the match as usual. He will be pleased with his boys as this is the flavor of the Steelers. Star raider Siddharth Desai needs to be more agile as he looks a bit slow at times. Most of the opposition teams have decoded ways to trap him collectively. Vinay has provided that additional raiding option. Yet the Steelers seem to be short of the third raider if in case Siddharth and Vinay are not able to score. The Steelers have tried young raider Shivam Patare. They also have the option of veteran raiders like Chandran Ranjit and Prapanjan.

Though left corner Mohit could not open his account in the last match, captain Jaideep was back in action with 4 points. Haryana Steelers are placed 6th in the points table after playing 4 matches. They started with a blemish against the UP Yodha, but looks like the Steelers have brewed a perfect combination that can trouble the best in the business. Haryana will be up against a spirited Gujarat Giants. This will be an epic clash as both teams follow similar philosophies on the mat.

Haryana coach Manpreet Singh mentored the Gujarat Giants few seasons back and he knows everything about his former team. But Sultan Fazel Attrachali is in charge of the Giants and he can spring a surprise for the Steelers. Haryana has won 7 out of their 12 meetings with one match ending as a TIE.

Gujarat Giants Preview

Currently placed 2nd in the points table, the Gujarat Giants are one of the top sides of the tournament. They started with a hat-trick of victories which was a dream start for them in season 10. Unfortunately they lost the next 2 games, as if they suddenly came across speed breakers on the highway. They lost to the Patna Pirates followed by a defeat to the Jaipur Pink Panthers.

But their fans won’t be too worried as both these losses were close matches. Gujarat lost by a margin of 3 points in both games. Young raider Sonu Jaglan has been the star for the Giants. He has earned 46 raid points in 5 matches which includes 4 Super 10’s and 4 Super raids. He is a dangerous customer as Sonu wipes out the opposition within a few seconds. Raider Rakesh has been his side-kick but he needs to be consistent. The Gujarat Giants have used all-rounders instead of the third raider and this has worked for them.

All-rounder Rohit Gulia has been impressive in his tackles apart from contributing in a few raids too. Their biggest asset is the defense lead by captain Fazel Attrachali. The best defender in PKL history, Fazel has executed 8 successful tackles in 5 matches. Defender Sourav Gulia has been impressive but Sombir is their rock of Gibraltar with 12 successful tackles in 5 matches. Hence the Giants have a deadly combination of raiders and defenders.

The Giants have executed 84 successful team raids out of their 208 raids. They need to improve this efficiency. The lost their last 2 matches and both were due to tactical issues. Opponents have started using a unique strategy against the Giants. They target different players in their raids and do not allow the Gujarat team to stabilize. The Pirates and the Pink Panthers were able to keep their main players off the mat for long durations which led to the Giants falling shorts of 3 points in both games.

Gujarat Giants have generally struggled against the Haryana Steelers. They have been able to win just 4 out of their 12 encounters. This may be as both teams follow a similar pattern on the mat. This is a very important match for the Giants as they have lost consecutive games. If they lose this one too, they may slip further down in the points table.

It’s time for fireworks as two young and vibrant teams clash at the Balewadi sports complex, Pune. Even though star raider Siddharth Desai has not performed well, the Steelers have raiders Vinay and Vinay Pathare as backup. Unfortunately none of their raiders will be able to score a Super 10 against Gujarat. Captain Jaipdeep and right corner Rahul Sethpal will target Gujarat raider Sonu, but the Steelers may fall short of earning via raids.

Captain Fazel Attrachali and defender Sombir will target Haryana raider Siddharth and Vinay. All-rounder Rohit Gulia may be the game changer for the Giants. Gujarat will slow down the pace and both teams may not score too many points till half-time. But the second half will be full of fireworks.

Haryana Steelers all-rounder Ashish may trouble the Gujarat raiders but overall the Haryana defense may crumble under pressure. The second half will witness a lot of unforced errors as well as warning cards shown by the umpires. Expect a high octane match.

Gujarat Giants will win.
