Welcome to the second semi-final of the season as the defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers take on the underdogs Haryana Steelers. Jaipur had a consistent run through the season as they finished 2nd in the points table. With 16 victories to their credit, Jaipur looks on course to continue their journey to the finals. But they will face the young and dynamic Haryana Steelers. Haryana shocked a lot of teams as they peaked at the right time. They utilized their young players and variety of combinations to stun top teams. They finished 5th in the points table which enabled them to qualify for the eliminators.
They blanked out the Gujarat Giants in the eliminator to set up a semi-final clash with Jaipur. While the Pink Panthers have a trump card in the form of Arjun Deshwal, it’s their defense which has been impressive. Left corner Ankush and Iranian Reza Mirbagheri have been phenomenal. Haryana Steelers survive hand to mouth with their raiders but captain Jaideep has fought tooth and nail with his defenders in every match. Haryana lost both their league encounters to Jaipur. This will be a golden opportunity for them to avenge both defeats as well as book their maiden seat for the finals.
The defending champions are back to where they belong. They won 16 out of their 22 league games and qualified for the semi-finals directly. Jaipur started in a lukewarm fashion but quickly recovered to consistently win games. MVP of season 9 Arjun Deshwal is their main weapon. Though the Pink Panthers have generally struggled with their support raiders, Arjun has been on a phenomenal run. He has scored 262 raid points from 200 successful raids. This includes 16 Super 10’s which is the highest by any raiders this season.
With support raiders like Ajith, Bhavani Rajput and Shubham Shelke, the Pink Panthers have not been pressed too hard in their raiding. Their success rate in team raids is around 38% which is a bit lower as compare to other teams. But Jaipur has compensated for with their rock solid defense. Left corner Ankush is in the top 10 with 62 successful tackles in 21 matches. Captain Sunil Kumar and Reza Mirbhageri have resonated along with Sahul Kumar. Hence Jaipur looks unstoppable with Arjun Deshwal earning at will while the defense blocks every move by the opposition.
Jaipur has an efficiency of about 42% in team tackles. They have also executed 30 Super tackles in the season which has helped them overcome difficult situations.
They have inflicted 35 all-outs as they have earned 86 team points.
The road to the semi-finals was quite comfortable for the defending champions. They lost just 3 matches in the season apart from settling for a TIE in 3 other games. They lost a match in the last couple of weeks to the Patna Pirates. This was a close encounter which went down the wire. The loss was due to the lack of support from their second and third raider. Jaipur has to be careful as they are up against the Haryana Steelers. The Pink Panthers defeated the Steelers convincingly twice in the season. But Haryana coach Manpreet will be aware about this weakness. The second semi-final hence becomes an intriguing encounter. Jaipur will be aggressive with Arjun Deshwal and the defenders, but they are up against a shrewd young Haryana side who can trouble them in this knock out match.
The young guns turned the table with their grit and teamwork as they qualified for the eliminators. The Haryana Steelers won 13 out of their 22 league games to finish 5th in the points table. The Steelers will be up against the defending champions in the second semi-finals. This is a golden opportunity for them to earn their maiden call-up for the finals. Haryana had a lot of issues in the first half of the season. They drafted Siddharth Desai for 1 Crore in the auction with the hope that he will rip through the opponents. But Siddharth could not replicate his form which he displayed a few season back for U Mumba. This pushed Haryana back to the drawing board as coach Manpreet had to try various raiding combinations. This resulted in a few losses in the first few weeks of the tournament.
Coach Manpreet had to get veteran Chandran Ranjit to set the tone post which youngsters like Vinay, Shivam Patare and all-rounder Ashish could bring some stability. Haryana improved their efficiency in team raids to about 35% due to these changes. Captain Jaideep and right cover Mohit Nandal have been the pillars of their defense. Both are in the top 10 with Mohit executing 63 successful tackles in 22 matches.
Their team tackle success rate is about 44% which is second to table toppers Puneri Paltan. Hence the defense has become their main weapon. Haryana managed to inflict 33 Super tackles in the season. Whenever their team is in trouble, their defenders have been their saviors. This also helped them earn additional points. Haryana has also inflicted 30 all-outs but at the same time they have also conceded 34. This has been their major concern. Though they inflicted 3 all-outs in the eliminator against Gujarat Giants, they conceded an all-out too. The Steelers have to insulate themselves with this weakness against the defending champions.
Haryana displayed perfect teamwork against the Gujarat Giants. Raider Vinay scored a Super 10 while young Shivam Patare added another 8 raid points. But the Haryana defense was hot and spicy as Mohit Nandal hammered 7 tackle points while right corner Rahul Sethpal added another 3 tackle points. The steely defense is their main weapon against the in-form defending champions. Though the Haryana Steelers lost both their league encounters to Jaipur, they will be confident about themselves in the semi-finals. Coach Manpreet will be eager to launch some surprise attacks on Jaipur so as to take his young brigade to their maiden PKL finals.
Welcome to the second semi-finals as the defending champions face the Haryana Steelers. Jaipur will be quite confident about their setup as Arjun Deshwal is in good form. He will score a Super 10. But the biggest concern for Jaipur will be their support raiders. Haryana Steelers will be eager to exploit this chink in the armor. The Pink Panthers will be immaculate with their defense as left corner Ankush and Iranian Reza Mirbhageri will hunt in tandem. Captain Sunil Kumar and Sahul Kumar may be scratchy in the second half.
The Haryana Steelers will approach this match all guns blazing. They might just take the lead in the first half. It all depends on the form of Captain Jaideep Dahiya and the Haryana defense will exhibit some sensational tackles. This aggression may result in some green cards and warnings. This match will turn into a street fight post half-time. This will be a sensational contest between the in-form Jaipur Pink Panthers and the cunning Haryana Steelers coached by Manpreet Singh.
Haryana Steelers will win.
