Welcome to the second edition of the Eastern derby as the caravan has moved to Patna. The Pirates will take the Bengal Warriors in their own den. But both teams have gone through similar experiences in this season. Both teams have won 6 out of their 14 matches as they are placed in the bottom half of the points table. The Patna Pirates took a lot of time to kick start their campaign of season 10. They struggled with their raiding as well as their defense. The Bengal Warriors have barely survived as they lacked team effort. The Warriors have survived on individual brilliance rather. Maninder Singh and Shubham Shinde has been sensational in their respective departments but this has not helped their team catapult in the top 5.

The Patna Pirates had a close shave as they defeated the UP Yodha by a slender margin in their last match. None of their raiders scored a Super 10 but it was their deadly defense that saved the day. The Patna defenders scored 13 tackle points in the match. The Bengal Warriors got thrashed by the Jaipur Pink Panthers in their last match. They witnessed a total breakdown of their defense. Hence the rerun of the Eastern derby at Patna will be exciting and entertaining.

Patna Pirates Preview

3 time champions, Patna Pirates return to their home turf placed 8th in the points table. Having won just 6 out of their 14 matches, the Pirates are running out of time to earn enough points in order to qualify for the next round. It has been a struggle for the Pirates in season 10 as they have alternately struggled with their raiding and defense. Their raiders took a lot of time to settle as Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet looked rusty. The introduction of young raider Sandeep Kumar has helped them stabilize. Defenders Krishnan and all-rounder Ankit have been their stars as both have been consistent and impressive. Both Krishnan and Ankit have executed 39 successful tackles each in 14 match. Captain Neeraj Kumar was among the top 10 defenders last year. He hasn’t been up to the mark in season 10.

Patna Pirates had a tough match against the UP Yodha. They went back to a defensive strategy which earned them a win. Ankit scored a Hi 5 while Krishnan scored 3 tackle points. But newcomer left cover M Babu surprised the Yodha with a burst of 4 tackle points. Coach Narendra REdu has utilized a lot of players considering he has to keep most of them fit for this long season.

Hence the Patna Pirates will expect this young brigade to form a wall though the season. This young bunch of defenders will have to work overtime against raiders like Maninder Singh. Patna Pirates still needs a better performance from Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet. Sachin has earned 114 raid points in 14 matches while Manjeet has performed below average with just 79 points from 13 matches. All-rounder Sudhakar has supported with 73 raid points in 12 games.

The Patna Pirates have dominated Bengal Warriors over the years. They have won 13 out of their 22 matches. The Pirates scored their highest team total of 69 points in a match against the Warriors in season 7. Though they struggled against Bengal last year. The Pirates lost to Bengal in their first league match of season 10. Bengal Warriors hammered 60 points against the Pirates in that game. Patna will plan to avenge this defeat in front of their fans. This will be an epic encounter as the Pirates are up against an inform Maninder Singh. If Patna is not able to tame Maninder, this might be a crucial blow to their chances this season.

Bengal Warriors Preview

The Bengal Warriors have not been at their best in season 10. The Warriors have given glimpses of greatness in some matches while they have suffered a breakdown in most. Currently placed 7th in the points table, Bengal has won just 6 out of their 14 matches. They have won 3 out of their last 5 games. They lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers earlier in the week. It was a comedy of as Shubham Shinde could not open his account. Shubham has been their best defender with 46 successful tackles in 14 matches. Defender Jaskeerat too could not open his account while none of the raiders could score a Super 10. Coach K Bhaskaran weaved a wonderful combination in the initial phase of the tournament. But the Warriors have missed the killer punch in most of their games. They had TIED their first league match with the Pink Panthers but surrendered in their next.

Consistency is the issue with the Warriors. Mighty Maninder has earned 129 raid points from 100 successful raids.

Bengal has a success rate of 41% in team raids. Their efficiency in team tackles is about 39%. Yet they are placed 7th in the points table. The major reason is that Bengal have conceded 527 team points in 14 matches.

They have also given away 20 all-outs as gifts to their opponents. Hence their expenses are more than their income. Bengal Warriors had a dream run on 12th December 2023 when they took on the Patna Pirates for the first time in season 10. It was a massacre as Bengal pounded 60 team points to win the match by a margin of 18 points. Mighty Maninder, Srikant Jadhav and Nitin Kumar scored a Super 10 each. This was one of the best performance by any raiding trio in the history of PKL. But a lot has changed since then. The Warriors have suffered breakdowns and fatigue issues. They will be up against the dangerous Patna Pirates once again. Historically the Bengal Warriors have always struggled against the Pirates. They have won just 6 out of their 22 encounters with Patna which is an abysmal record. But the Warriors have also played out 3 TIE’s over the years. Hence with their current form and momentum, Bengal Warriors will be bullish in their plans to loot the Pirates.

Welcome to the second edition of the Eastern derby as Bengal Warriors travel to Patna to take on the Pirates in their own den. The Patna Pirates will hope that with the help of their fans they will be able to win this crucial bout. Placed 8th in the points table Patna desperately needs to win this match. But their raiders will have a tough time against the Bengal defenders. None of the Pirate raiders will be able to score a Super 10. Defender Shubham Shinde will be back to his usual hunting as he will be the game changer.

Bengal Warriors will hope that Captain Maninder scored a huge Super 10. The support raiders will be useful. The Bengal defense will rise to the occasion and kill at will in the second half. Both teams will be prone to a lot of unforced errors. The first half will move on a slow burner and Patna may take lead by half-time. But they will be chaos and mayhem in the second half as both teams will get desperate to win. This will be an entertaining event.

Bengal Warriors will win.
