Patna Pirates were the most consistent side last season. They topped the table only to lose to Dabang Delhi in the finals. But with limited yet special resources, the Pirates made every team sweat. Puneri Paltan started galloping a bit too late last time. Although they qualified for the play-off with some spirited performances, they could not keep up with the bigger teams. 3-time champions, the Pirates always had some inspirational players. They ruled the mat with Monu Goyat and Pardeep Narwal as well as players like Nabibaksha, Sajin, and Mohammedreza. They had another dream run last season only to end up runners-up.

This time the Pirates have stuck to their tried and tested combination. Their raiding party will be led by Sachin Tanwar while the defense will be taken care of by Sajin, left corner Iranian Mohammedreza and all-rounder Rohit Gulia.

Left corner Mohammedreza turned out to be the star of season 8 with 86 successful tackles including 10 Hi 5's. Raiders of most of the teams started avoiding the left corner as Mohammedreza was extremely lethal and accurate with his ankle holds. He will have to repeat similar performances for the Pirates this season.

Patna Pirates amassed over 1000 raid points last season while executing the highest team tackles. This made them unbeatable throughout the season. This time, they have the able Sachin Tanwar to lead their raiding team. He will have the support of Monu, Sushil Gulia, and Anand Tomar. The Pirates will have to be prepared with contingency plans in case Sachin or any other top performer gets injured. They will expect Sunil and Neeraj Kumar to forge a tight right corner cover combination to bolster their defense.

Patna Pirates have had the better of Puneri Paltan whenever they have clashed. Out of their 17 encounters, the Pirates have won 13 and most of them with huge margins. They will expect their young Turks to start the season with a big win.

Coach Anup Kumar had a gang of inexperienced and untested youngsters in season 8. Rahul Chaudhary lost his rhythm early in season 8 and Nitin Tomar had to marshal the troops. But youngsters like Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat rose to the occasion turning the Puneri Paltan into a fighting unit.

Right Cover Abhinesh Nadarajan worked hard relentlessly to execute tackles but the Paltan used to fall short of a good defensive combination. Hence they have decided to add the Iranian flavor as they bought “Sultan” Fazel Attrachali and all-rounder Mohammad Nabibaksha in the auctions.

Now coach Anup Kumar has a potent mix of experience and youth to beat the opposition. Puneri Paltan found their form in the later half of season 8 and just scraped through to the play-off. That was due to some sleek and innovative raiding by Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat. Both have been in decent form while playing for their state at the recent National games.

Fazel Attrachali in the left corner will provide a lot of experience to this team while the all-round capabilities of Nabibaksha will help defenders like Abhinesh and Sombir to improve their tackle efficiency.

The Paltan have beaten the Patna Pirates only twice in their 17 encounters, but whenever they have beaten them, it has been with huge margins. Hence the Paltan will be looking forward to a massive win to start the season.

The inclusion of Fazel Attrachali in the Puneri Paltan is a huge move. The Paltan has been looking forward to such an iconic figure in their squad. In form raiders, Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat look in great share as they will be expected to tear the opposition apart. But they have to be careful of Mohammedreza and Sajin from the Pirates. Raiders Shubhma Shelke, Pankaj Mohite, and Akash Shinde will have to play out of their skins to help their team.

Patna Pirates will rely on the ever-dependable Sachin Tanwar to break the Paltan defence. He was instrumental in the Pirate success last time with his quick and accurate raiding. He will have to groom other raiders like Monu and Anand Tomar to maintain good raiding efficiency. The Pirate defense comprising of Sajin, Neeraj Kumar, Sunil, and Mohammedreza has worked well in tandem. This gives the Pirates a lethal edge over their opponents.
