The Patna Pirates have won back to back games thus pushing them to the 6th spot in the points table. Their fans are still hopeful that the Pirates may just squeeze in the top 5 so that they can move into the eliminators. With 7 victories in 15 matches, it is “Mission Impossible” for Patna. They managed to thrash the Bengal Warriors in their last match but they take on the invincible Puneri Paltan in their next. They will be playing 3 matches and 4 days, hence they will have to battle fatigue.

Puneri Paltan had a tough match against rivals U Mumba. They managed to TIE the match. For a change, they trailed U Mumba almost throughout the match. A late surge by their defense saved the day for them. But overall, the Paltan has been their best team of season 10. They thrashed the Patna Pirates in their last meeting and hence the Paltan will be confident of another good show. But they will take on the Pirates in their own den and this will be an epic encounter between the 3 time champions and the runners-up of season 9.

Patna Pirates Preview

Patna Pirates will be playing 3 matches in 4 days on home turf and this will be their biggest test of season 10. They defeated the Bengal Warriors by a huge margin and they will be up for another stern test as they take on the Puneri Paltan. In a couple of days they clash with the Gujarat Giants. Hence their road to the next round is full of barriers and speed-breakers. Apart from these hurdles, they need to keep their engines running at full throttle as they do not have much time to overhaul themselves.

The Patna Pirates are placed 6th in the points table and realistically, they do have a chance to proceed into the eliminators. But they will need to win all their remaining games which is quite a challenge. Fortunately the entire team resonated against the Bengal Warriors. Raiders Sachin and Manjeet hunted like old friends as they collectively earned 19 raid points. Raider Sandeep Kumar added another 4 raid points. The Patna defense gave a glimpse of the past as they Krishnan scored a Hi 5. But the introduction of defender Mayur Kadam was a masterstroke as he hunted effectively to score 6 tackle points. Mayur has been one of the best defenders on the circuit but the Pirates took a long time to introduce him. Has this move come at the crucial time or a bit late? The Pirates inflicted 3 all-outs in the match which took the steam out of their opponents. Can the Patna Pirates repeat such a brilliant performance against the much stronger Puneri Paltan?

The Pirates have improved their raiding success rate which is about 42%. This is slightly better than the Paltan.

Their success rate in team tackles is just about 37%.

Though the Pirates have inflicted 22 all-outs which is next to the Puneri Paltan, they have also conceded 19. Hence their raiding and defense is not resonating.

They will be up against the mighty Puneri Paltan who have lost just 2 matches in the season. Though the Pirates have dominated the Paltan, this was only till season 8. Since then the Puneri Paltan has troubled the Pirates in every match. This will be an important encounter for the Pirates as they need to win this desperately to float higher in the points table.

Puneri Paltan Preview

Runners-up of season 9 are on a mission, achieve something that they narrowly missed last year. The Puneri Paltan seems to be the best team on the circuit as they have won 11 out of their 14 matches. They have the best raiding combination as well as a tenacious defense. None of their raiders are in the top 10, but the trio of Aslam Inamdar, Mohit Goyat and Pankaj Mohite have devastated every opposition. This has also made sure that the Paltan is not dependent on a Superstar. The Puneri Paltan have another serious option in the form of all-rounder Mohamedreza. He has been unbelievable at the left corner position, but he has also contributed as and when required in raiding. Hence the Paltan can weave tactics dynamically.

Though they had a tough time against U Mumba in the last match, Pune is placed comfortably. They did suffer a temporary setback in the last match as their arch-rivals Mumba took the lead by half-time. The Paltan was slow to react but they worked overtime in the second half to TIE the match. Puneri Paltan will feel comfortable with such tests from time to time before the play-offs. Left cover Sanket Sawant scored 4 tackle points while Mohammedreza completed a Hi 5 to save the day for their team.

The Paltan has the best team tackle efficiency of 57%. The next best are the Tamil Thalaiva with 45% success rate.

Mohammedreza is currently the best defender on the circuit with 56 successful tackles.

Defender Gaurav Khatri has been ruthless with 43 successful tackles from 14 matches.

The Puneri Paltan have inflicted 27 all-outs in 14 matches. Hence they have all the necessary ingredients to stake claim at the title.

The Paltan will be up against the Patna Pirates who have dominated them over the years. But since season 9, Patna is a shadow of its past. The Paltan has won just 4 out of their 20 encounters. But Puneri Paltan dominated season 9 where there won both their league games against the Pirates. Pune is much better placed in this match against the Pirates.

The Patna Pirates will be playing their second match in 2 days. They had a thrilling victory over the Bengal Warriors but they will be up against the mighty Puneri Paltan. Captain Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet displayed grit and resolve in the last match earning 19 points collectively. Can they repeat the same against an ultra-strong Puneri defense? None of the Patna raiders will be able to score a Super 10 but they will resonate. Defender Krishnan will be up to the mark but he will need the support of all-rounder Ankit and Mayur Kadam. The first half of the match will be slow as the defenders of both teams will hunt precisely.

But the Puneri Paltan raiders have an uncanny knack of surprising their opponents. None of the Puneri raiders will score a Super 10 but collectively they will trouble the Pirates. Mohamedreza will contribute in tackles as well as touch points. The Puneri defenders will be the surprise package as Sanket Sawant and Gaurav Khatri will target Patan raider Sachin Tanwar. This will be the biggest test for the Patna Pirates on their home turf.

Puneri Paltan will win.
