The Patna Pirates survived an onslaught from Dabang Delhi in their last match. They will consider themselves lucky to have forced a TIE. The Pirates will be happy that both their top raiders were able to score a Super 10 after a long time. Their defense was a bit scratchy, but their raiders saved the day. On the other hand, nothing construction is happening in the Thalaiva camp as they lost to the Haryana Steelers by a margin of 5 points. They lost the plot as their coach kept on changing players under pressure. The Thalaiva is placed 11th in the points table, and the play-off look like a mirage to them.

While the Pirates are blossoming under pressure, Tamil Thalaiva has lost its edge. Their raiders have not been able to earn effectively in the last 5 matches. The Thalaiva has lost 4 out of its last 5 matches. They also lost to the Pirates by a huge margin of 13 points in their first league encounter this season. Hence the Pirates will be confident about handling the Thalaiva. The Pirates need to win all their matches with huge margins in order to catapult them in the top 5. With a TIE in their last match, it’s a tricky situation for Patna as Tamil Thalaiva may just play spoil sport.

Patna Pirates Preview

Former champions are still short of what it needs to jump into the top 5. They are placed 8th in the points table with just 5 victories out of 12 matches. They had a tough outing against Dabang Delhi. This was a high scoring match which the Pirates somehow managed to TIE. The Pirates were very lucky to have shared the points. Patna has won just 2 out of its last 5 matches. They were saved by their raiders in the last match as both Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet scored a Super 10. They will face the Tamil Thalaiva followed by the UP Yodha this week.

The Pirates conceded an all-out very early in the first half and they trailed by 6 points at half-time. But Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet raised the intensity in the second half which allowed Patna to bounce back in style and finally level the match. Their defense was off-color and that is the major headache for the Pirates. Though the Patna Pirates have continued with the raiding combination with Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet Chillar, they also have the services of raiders like Rakesh Narwal along with Kunal Mehta, Sudhakar, Ranjit Naik, Anuj and Sandeep Kumar. They have the option of Taiwanese raider Zheng Wei Chang too. Patna started the season with consecutive victories. But they have been able to win just 2 out of their last 5 matches. Over the years, the Pirates were heavily dependent on Iranian all-rounder Mohammedreza who used to be lethal from the left corner position. Without Mohammedreza, the Pirates have not been able to find a decent alternative.

The Pirates defeated the Tamil Thalaiva ealier in earlier in the season. Overall Patna has won 7 out of their 13 encounters with the Thalaiva. Once in a while the Pirates have struggled against the men in yellow. Both teams have forced a TIE on 3 previous occasions. Fresh from the TIE against Dabang Delhi, Patna Pirates will not settle for another sticky situation. Fortunately, their raiders are back in form. They just need their defense to be strong enough so that they can complement the efforts of their raiders. Captain Neeraj, All-rounder Ankit and defender Krishnan hold the key for the Pirates against the Thalaiva.

Tamil Thalaivas Preview

The men in yellow have under-performed. They will be more disappointed with themselves. Tamil Thalaiva has won just 3 out of their 12 matches as they are placed 11th in the points table. They have lost 4 out of their last 5 matches. This is due to the fact that their raiding has been affected. Narender Kandola and Ajinkya Pawar started the season with some superlative performances. But then their effervescence fizzled out resulting in their team losing consecutive matches. The Thalaiva is totally dependent on its defense which alone cannot earn you a living.

The Thalaiva lost to the Haryana Steelers in their last match. Their fans expected them to put up a fight but the men in yellow were low on fuel. Their raiders were completely outclassed by the Haryana defense. The Thalaiva tried out 6 of their raiders in a desperate attempt to earn points. But none of them proved effective. Captain Sagar was the lone warrior as he scored a Hi 5 while the other defenders were just above average. With time running out, the Thalaiva needs to revitalize itself.

Their success rate in team raids is about 35% while their efficiency in team tackles is around 41%.

Captain Sagar has executed 37 successful tackles in 11 matches while all-rounder Sahil Gulia has contributed equal number of successful tackles in 12 outings. Defenders Abhishek and Mohit have been less consistent. Due to this, the efforts of Sagar and Sahil have not resulted in victories. But time is running out for the Thalaiva. They do not have many raiding options. The men in yellow have clearly displayed their desperation in a few matches. Instead of counter-attacks, they have been busy salvaging themselves. They will be up against the Patna Pirates who are stronger than them in all departments. This will be one of the toughest match for the Thalaiva. Though they have troubled the Pirates time and again, it will take a mammoth effort for them to topple the Pirates. All they need is to play within their limitations and have faith in their abilities.

The Patna Pirates and the Tamil Thalaiva have very less time on hand to recover from their current positions. Both need to win their remaining matches to stay in contention for the play-off. The Patna Pirates will feel comfortable as their raiders were back on track in their last match. Raiders Sachin Tanwar and Manjeet will earn heavily, though they will be regulated by the Tamil defense. Patna defenders Krishnan and Ankit will be vital for their success. Captain Neeraj Kumar has been in decent form in the last few matches. The Pirates only have to be careful about a sudden spike from the Thalaiva.

The men in yellow are struggling and it might continue for a while. Their raiding will not yield results against the Pirates. None of their raiders will be able to score a Super 10. It will all fall back on Captain Sagar who will score a Hi 5. The only way the Thalaiva can trouble the Pirates is by creating panic in the opposition camp. Tamil Thalaiva will try to rush through their first few raids. If it yields results, they will lead by half-time, else this would another defeat for the men in yellow.

Patna Pirates will win.
