The unexpected happened to the Patna Pirates as they were struck by the pandemic. We sincerely wish that all the players recover and are fit enough to enter the arena. The Pirates have not played a single game in the last 10 days and this will hurt their preparations. They are already sliding down the points table and currently are in the 6th spot after 11 games. The Thalaiva’s got recharged in a few matches but lost steam in the last 5 games. They have won a match and tied 2 in the last 5. They are at the 9th spot with 34 points.
Having the best defenders does not guarantee you victories, but the Thalaiva’s have become TIE specialists and they don’t mind playing in the SAFE mode rather than lose the game. They tied their last game with the Jaipur Pink Panthers. But this time they have a fortunate chance as they take on the Pirates who are recovering from health issues. Defenders Surjeet and Sagar are assets for the Thalaiva’s and they will try and hunt down every Pirate raider in their zone.
The Pirates hit a severe roadblock as their team was hit by the Covid pandemic. We hope that all the players have recovered and we wish for their well-being. It will be a challenge for all the players to play a competitive game after recovery. They were anyways under pressure with the bio-bubble conditions and it takes a toll on players. It was Monu Goyat who was missing initially and then a few other members of the squad. They played their last game on 18th January when they lost to Dabang Delhi.
Currently, in the 6th position after 11 games, the Pirates will have a tough time in the remainder of the league. The Pirates have a vibrant combination in their raiding as well as their defense. But in the last game, they were not able to exploit the absence of Naveen Express and this hurt them badly.
Raiders Sachin Tanwar and Prashant Rai will be expected to spearhead the raiding operations while Ghuman Singh, Selvamai, and Monu provide the backup. The Pirates have Sajin, Mohammedreza, and Neeraj Kumar as custodians and they have performed consistently.
Defender Neeraj Kumar reached 100 tackle points in the last game and he will be raring to have a go at the Thalaiva’s.
Sajin has executed 4 Super Tackles while Mohammedreza has earned 33 tackle points in 11 games.
This will be a test of the mental strength of the Pirates as they will be tested mentally as well as physically against the Thalaiva.
The Tamil Thalaiva went into a shell in the last few games as they could not win from good positions. They are placed 9th in the points table and have won just 1 game out of their last 5. They have a golden opportunity to win against the Pirates and move up the ladder.
Their defense crumbled under pressure in the last game while the raiders worked overtime. Ajinkya Pawar and Manjeet scored 27 points between them out of the 34 team points.
Ajinkya Pawar is a DoD specialist with 26 DoD raid points. He has improved a lot as a raider in this format. The other issue with the Thalaiva’s is earning bonus points. They need to improve on this count so as to help them support any breakdown of the defense.
Defenders Sagar and Surjeet have 82 tackle points between them but they could earn only 1 tackle point together in their last game. This is a big worry for the Thalaiva who are totally dependent on these 2 defenders to win games.
The only positive is that as a team they have earned 408 points while conceding 392 in 12 games.
The Thalaiva’s need to improve their consistency as a team, they can win games only if they perform well in raiding as well as the defense. They have lost matches when either one of the departments fails to deliver.
Unfortunately, they have not won any of their last 4 games which included 2 tied games. This strategy of playing safe may work in the league stage but they will not be able to win knock-out games later.
This is the right time to change gears and enforce themselves on the opposition. They will have to come up with innovative ways to counter the Pirates and win this game to give themselves a much-needed win.
This will be a tough game for the Pirates as they will have to reboot and restart after the medical break. They will be up against the Thalaiva’s who have a very strong defense in the form of Sagar and Surjeet. Sachin Tanwar and Prashant Rai will be responsible for earning raid points but will they be able to perform at the same level as they did earlier in the season?
The Thalaiva’s will be looking forward to some exploits from raiders Manjeet and Ajinkya Pawar who earned 27 points between them out of the 34 team points in their last game against the Jaipur Pink Panthers. Defenders Sagar and Surjeet are the best in the business but they need to be consistent too. Bhavani Rajput can also be used by the Thalaiva’s as their backup raider if needed.
But it will be a bigger challenge for the Pirates who are making a comeback.
Tamil Thalaiva will win.
