3-time champions Patna Pirates have had the worst season in their entire PKL journey. They are placed 11th in the points table after playing 9 games. They faltered very early and since then the Pirates haven’t really shown signs of recovery. Though they did beat Dabang Delhi, they have a long way to go. Fans of Patna Pirates are still recovering from the shock of watching their team struggling to win games. That shock was reduced a bit when the Patna Pirates beat the defending champions. Since then the Pirates have looked like their old self. The Pirates are yet to face their toughest challenge of the tournament, their contest with U Mumba.

Patna Pirates forced a TIE against the Bengaluru Bulls and that gave them a lot of self-belief. They went on to beat the UP Yodha followed by a win over the Gujarat Fortune Giants. In all these games, it was their defense that blossomed. 

Defenders Manish and left corner Mohammedreza struck gold against the Bulls. 

Captain Neeraj Kumar was at his best against the UP Yodha.

Defender Sunil and 3rd raider Monu added to the woes of the Fortune Giants.

Apart from the defense, all-rounder, Rohit Gulia has been at his best with contributions in raids as well as tackles. This has also helped raider Sachin Tanwar get back into rhythm. 

The Pirates have executed just 137 successful team raids out of their total 377 team raids. The Patna Pirates need to improve on this number. They have executed just 74 successful team tackles which haven’t allowed them to dominate and win games.

Unfortunately, the Pirates do not enjoy a great record over U Mumba. They have won just 6 out of their 16 outings against Mumba. The Pirates will be wary of the fact that U Mumba has been dominating their opponents in the past few games. U Mumba had a scare in their last game as they were almost toppled by the Telegu Titans. But Mumba displayed a lot of grit and maturity to win the game by a margin of just 3 points. These characteristics were missing from the Mumba camp. They seem to have learned it the hard way, but all their hard work is paying off as they have moved to the 3rd spot in the points table after playing 9 games. They have won 6 games accumulating 31 points.

This has been the most impressive season for Mumba in the last few years. Their defense has woken up to the challenge while new coach Anil Chaprana has intelligently cultivated an army of raiders. He used the combination of Ghuman Singh and Jai Bhagwan in the initial games. Later he introduced raider Ashish and Iranian Haiderali Ekrami which paid dividends. In the last game, he sprung a surprise by introducing young raider Pranay Rane who impressed everyone by earning 6 points.

This move has kept the opponents guessing which has helped U Mumba win its last 3 games. They faltered against the Bengaluru Bulls but since then Mumba has dominated the proceedings.

Captain Surender Singh is at his best currently while left corner Mohit has lent his support to the precise hunting. Defenders Rinku Narwal and Harender too have contributed in the last few games, thus giving a lethal edge to the Mumba defense.

They will be up against a struggling Patna Pirates. U Mumba has an impressive record against the Pirates as they have won 9 out of their 16 games. Though Mumba could not beat them in their 2 meetings in season 8, they will be very confident of taking on the Pirates considering the way Mumba has performed in the last few games.
