UP Yodha has been a bit unfortunate not to win a few more games this season. They have played 7 matches and won just 3. This does not reflect how well they have played as a team. Their losses were a result of collective failure.

The Patna Pirates shocked everyone by going winless for almost 2 weeks in the new season. They seemed as if they were not prepared for the great grind until they beat none other than the defending champions to open their account. But their overall performance hasn’t been very exciting. After their emphatic victory, they managed to hold the Bengaluru Bulls to a TIE in their last game.

The UP Yodha hammered the Tamil Thalaiva and look in much better form. As these two sides prepare to take on each other, Patna Pirates have a lot more to sort rather than UP Yodha. But both sides look pumped and eager for another victory.

Patna Pirates Preview

Patna Pirates has been the surprise package of this season, not in the positive sense of course. They could not win a match for a long time, looked like amateurs, and wandered aimlessly at the bottom of the points table.

Until they beat the defending champions in their 6th game of the season. There doesn’t seem to be any issue if one looks at the Patna Pirates team. They have the same core, good raiders, and effective defenders but they could not deliver it on the mat. Raider Sachin Tanwar hasn’t yet fired the way he is known to. He had a brilliant season with the Gujarat Fortune Giants and continued his dream run in season 8 for the Patna Pirates. But this season he is not even on the list of the top 10 raiders.

Another disappointment for the Pirates has been captain Neeraj Kumar who hasn’t been quick in his moves. This resulted in the Patna defense becoming brittle in every match. Opponents exploited this and beat Patna in most games. Their revival came as they beat Dabang Delhi which was a grand surprise for the Pirate fans. 

They take on arch-rivals UP Yodha who seem to be in their vicinity in the points table. Left corner Mohemmedreza is becoming dangerous day by day while right corner Sunil has improved in the last few games. Support raider Monu hasn’t been fired yet which puts all the pressure on all-rounder Rohit Gulia. 

Out of 290 team raids conducted by the Pirates, they have succeeded in only 109.

They have inflicted 7 all-outs while conceding 11 in 7 games.

These are the numbers they need to work on urgently. Unfortunately, the Pirates do not have a vibrant bench strength to fall back on but they have always ruled the mat and the Pirates will go all out against the Yodha.

U.P. Yoddha Preview

The Yodha has been struggling this season. Their performances have been good enough but the results do not show a rosy picture. They are placed 9th in the points table after 6 games with just 3 victories. The Yodha could have avoided at least 2 out of their 3 losses. 

Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill have been sensational while the defense has been good courtesy left corner Sumit. But captain Nitesh has disappointed fans and he needs to get back with a bang. Earlier UP Yodha lost a very high-scoring game to the Gujarat Fortune Giants. Pardeep and Surender looted 31 raid points together but the UP defense gifted 36 raid points to their opponents.

But the Yodha came back with a bang to beat Tamil Thalaiva in their next game by a huge margin to get some set off from their earlier match. But the road ahead will be tough for UP Yodha as they cannot afford to lose track from here. Pardeep Narwal is back in form and looks like his old self. He has earned 56 raid points in 6 games while the ever-dependable Surender Gill has pocketed 65 points in 6 games. 

It is the defense that has not yet fired. Left corner Sumit and Right cover Ashu Singh have formed a deadly combination. Both have been consistent and lethal. Sumit was the player of the match in the last encounter against the Thalaiva. 

UP Yodha does not have a great record against the Patna Pirates. They have won just 4 out of their 11 encounters. Yodha also lost to the Pirates in the semi-finals of season 8. Hence this will be an important match for the Yodha as they have a lot to settle with the Pirates.

This time, the Yodha looks stronger and well equipped than the Pirates. This will be another exciting encounter at the new venue and hope both teams continue the fireworks on the mat post-Diwali too.

Winning Prediction

Welcome to another popular rivalry as the Yodha takes on the Pirates. The Patna Pirates traditionally have dominated the Yodha but this is a new season. Sachin Tanwar is not at his best and a lot of work has to be put in by Rohit Gulia. The Patna defense looks out of sync most of the time. Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill will exploit this weakness. 

The Pirates are known for their tactics which seem to be missing this season. Their defense is heavily dependent on left corner Mohamedreza who will target Pardeep and keep him off the mat for long durations. 

UP Yodha will keep all their options open for their defensive combinations. They will keep Sachin out of sight and reduce Rohit Gulia’s earnings. This will help them dominate the Pirates and push them to the wall.

Though the Pirates played brilliantly against Dabang Delhi, it looks unlikely that they will trouble the Yodha.
