The Giants would be furious with the way the last few minutes of their match versus Haryana Steelers unfolded. Coming back from a 11 point deficit, they then lead 34-31, only to end up on the losing side. They were taken aback with the flurry of raids in the first half which left them reeling under pressure. They need to be careful as their strategy is becoming monotonous as the opposition is making them play out of their comfort zone.
Paltans on the other hand have been very poor and are languishing at the bottom of the table. Unlike the other teams, Pune haven't managed to get 'ties'. They are considering all-outs easily and have a score difference of -43. Their defence is catastrophic at the moment and they need to get some points on board as soon as possible.
With the form of Puneri Paltan, Fortune Giants should not have a problem winning this match.
One could call them the most exciting team to watch on the mat. When they're in form, they are unstoppable. Starting slow in games, they take charge as the match reaches the half time mark. Inflicting all outs and scoring super raids, their players show a different avatar once they settle down.
The raiding duo of Rakesh Narwal and Rakesh have been efficient in scoring points. Like their first names, their raiding numbers are very similar - 33 successful raids each. Conceding free points by going out of bounds was a shame as they were held to a tie by table toppers Dabang Delhi.
Their inability to get a super raid or tackle against the Haryana Steelers cost them the match. Choking at the right time after a terrific comeback would be a huge blow. They have to shake off the last result and try to get the full 5 points, something they've not had since their first game. With just 37 tackles in their 5 games, they stand 10th in the league under this stat. Ravindra Pahal and Girish Ernak have to strengthen in the corners, and they need to inflict more all out as a team. Right now they average just 1 all out per match.
Areas to improve:
More super 10s required from the raiders.
Strengthen defence and get inflict more all outs
Only 12 do or die raid points (9th in the league), crumbling under pressure
Start strong and do not leave it too late.
Lurking down in the table, Paltans need to find higher gears and get some points on board. Star player Rahul Chaudhari has been off colour all season, leaving new kids Aslam Inamdar, Mohit Goyat and Pankaj Mohite to do the heavy work. Aslam Inamdar is his highest scoring raider and he's not even in the top 15 of the league.
Paltans have crumbled while defending, conceding 11 all outs so far. No other team has conceded more than 9.
The team has a raiding efficiency of just 32.21%. Experienced players such as Nitin Tomar and Rahul Chaudhari have to step up. They've not been on the mat for long, but Pune's hopes lie with their experience.
Areas to improve:
Raiding efficiency can massively improve.
Young defenders need to find the right motivation. Could be lethal.
Focus on not considering all-outs. Need to try more super raids, too many empty raids as a team.
While both teams have just 1 win on board, the Giants have looked much better. Puneri Paltan needs to play within its limitations as they have not been able to gel together as a unit. Now with Rahul Chaudhary benched in the last match, this will be an arduous journey for the Paltan. But that is the way kabaddi is played and the Paltan can make a scathing come back. Youngsters Aslam Inamdar and Pawan Kadian are the new raiding pair. Defender Abhinesh looks in good touch along with Vishal Bharadwaj. They can beat the Giants only if they play as a team.
Gujarat will have to work on its unforced errors. Rest they have a well oiled machine. They were tested in the last match by the Steelers and they would have learned the valuable lesson the hard way. Against an out of form Puneri side, they should not have any problem.
Gujarat Fortune Giants will win.
