As the league enters its last leg, the caravan moves to Hyderabad, the home of the Telegu Titans. But the first of the triple panga will be between the strong Puneri Paltan and the struggling Haryana Steelers.
The Steelers won their last game against the Gujarat Fortune Giants after losing 3 consecutive games. They were lucky to win their last game as it was by just a point. The Haryana Steelers have been stretched by most teams this season. Raider Manjeet scored 14 points in his last game and he will have to work overtime along with Meetu in order to help Haryana beat the Paltan.
The Puneri Paltan has had a dream season but they still need to win all their remaining matches. They lost a close game to arch-rivals U Mumba and then went on to thrash the Bengal Warriors. They have a young brigade of raiders who have combined forces to win games. Defenders Sombir, Abhinesh, and Fazel Attrachali are in top form.
This will be a tough match for the Steelers as they will hope for a miracle to help them beat the Paltan.
The Puneri Paltan has been one of the top-performing teams of the season. They have the class, flair, and swag which has helped them win matches consistently. They do suffer a blemish once in a while but the Paltan comes back in style.
They are placed 2nd in the points table after playing 14 games. The Paltan has won 3 out of its last 5 games. They beat Dabang Delhi comfortably at the beginning of the month followed by another victory over the UP Yodha. But the Paltan faltered against the Tamil Thalaiva and lost the game by just a point and this was a huge upset. They fell short of one big raid in that match as they could not defend their fortress.
But the Paltan got its revenge in the rivalry week where they go the better of the Thalaiva. But it was not a sweet victory as the Thalaiva lost by a point. Post this game, the Paltan lost a crucial match to arch-rivals U Mumba, once again by a margin of just 1 point. This is a matter of concern for the Paltan as they have not been able to deliver the knock-out punch in a few matches.
The Puneri Paltan follows a strange strategy of slowing down things when they are leading. But this backfires in the second half and then the Paltan is forced to settle for TIE or they lose the game by a couple of points.
But the Paltan has a trio of young raiders along with experienced defenders.
They have a good success rate of team raids which is about 41%.
The Paltan has executed 131 successful team tackles.
They have inflicted 20 all-outs in 14 games along with earning 49 Do-or-Die raid points.
The Puneri Paltan will look forward to winning all their remaining games so that they can improve their chances to finish in the top 2 in the points table. But they have to be careful against teams like the Haryana Steelers who may just spoil their party.
The Haryana Steelers have gotten stuck in traffic throughout the season. In most of their game, they got good starts but could not keep up the pace. With young raiders like Manjeet and Meetu Sharma along with terrific defenders like Jaideep Dahiya and Mohit Nandal, one expected the Steelers to dominate their opponents.
But that has not been the case. Coach Manpreet and his team have not been able to create magic on the mat. The Steelers are placed 9th in the points table after playing 14 games. They need to win all their remaining games in order to push their case for the playoff. Only a miracle and some bad performances by other teams will help the Steelers for now.
They will be up against the Puneri Paltan which has emerged as one of the strongest teams of the season. They forced a TIE with the UP Yodha in one of the games earlier but then went down the spiral with 3 consecutive losses. They lost to the Patna Pirates, Bengaluru Bulls, and again to the UP Yodha. They should have won their game against the Bulls where the margin of defeat was just 3 points.
Even in their last game, they survived a scare against the Gujarat Fortune Giants and won the game by just 1 point. It was a street brawl that ended in the Fortune Giants making a tactical mistake in their last raid.
But the Haryana Steelers cannot afford to err anymore. They still have a bleak chance to finish in the top 6 so as to keep their hopes alive.
Defender Jaideep Dahiya has been the most impressive with 37 successful tackles in 14 games.
But the raid success rate for the Steelers is just around 38 % which is much lower than the top teams.
The Haryana Steelers have conceded 474 team points along with 21 all-outs. With their backs to the wall, the Steelers will need to show nerves of steel along with hope for a miracle in order to escape from this situation.
This match will be a test for the Puneri Paltan as they have displayed a few weaknesses in the last couple of games. They seem to rely on the DoD too much which has backfired on occasions.
The Haryana Steelers will go all-out against the Paltan. Raiders Meetu and Manjeet will earn well with either of them scoring a Super 10. Coach Manpreet has to utilize raider Prapanjan against the Paltan. Defender Jaideep will be vicious with his tackles but he may not get enough support from the other defenders. Iranian Amihossein Bastami may just be the party spoiler for the Paltan.
Puneri raiders Aslam and Mohit Goyat will earn well. Raider Akash Shinde will bring the icing on the cake for the Paltan from his raids. Captain Fazel Attrachali and defender Sombir will hunt down the Steelers with ease. The second half will be crucial for the Paltan as defenders Sanket Sawant and Abhinesh will rise to the occasion and trap the Haryana raiders with ease.
Overall the Puneri Paltan will be ahead of the Steelers.
Puneri Paltan will win.
