Welcome to the repeat of the western derby as the league moves towards the knockout stage. Puneri Paltan are giant killers, they beat stronger sides but lose to smaller teams. They beat U Mumba by 20 points in their last meeting earlier in the week. They also beat the Bulls, Dabang Delhi earlier. But they seem to lose steam in easy matches due to which they are still 10th in the points table. U Mumba look a bit fatigued with this long season and they have not been able to jump up the points table. Mumba lost to Dabang Delhi and now they take on the Paltan. Both teams do well when their defense contributes. But raiders Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat have forged a lethal raiding combination for the Puneri Paltan. U Mumba seem to be going downhill with their form and this has been evident in their last few games. This will be a tough game for U Mumba as they take on the Puneri Paltan who have won their last 3 games. The Maharashtra derby promises to be an entertaining and high scoring one.
Puneri Paltan is the flight which never took off, it went taxing around the runway for too long this season. Though they never made it to the top 6 in this season, they have a very high entertainment quotient. They have won 7 of their 14 matches played and they have beaten some big teams. They seem to have got their team balance in the last few games and have started beating fancied teams. Raiders Mohit Goyat and Aslam Inamdar have impressed everyone with their skills.
Aslam Inamdar has earned 97 raid points while Ashu Malik and Mohit Goyat are steady performers. Captain Nitin Tomar also chips in at crucial moments. Hence they are able to compensate for the leakages in their defense. Defenders Abinesh and Sombir have been efficient but they need to improve their consistency. The Puneri Paltan works on the concept of fast paced kabaddi. They raid quickly and keep the opposition on tenter hooks. This has worked for them as they score big even if they leak points through the defense.
They have executed 212 successful team raids as well as 137 successful team tackles.
They have earned 263 raid points in 14 games while conceding 480 points too. But they have recovered from high spending in the last few matches. They have a wonderful opportunity to squeeze past a fatigued Mumba. Though Puneri Paltan may not be able to make it to the play-offs, but there is an unique pleasure in playing party poopers!!!!
U Mumba are paying the price of being conservative from the beginning of the season. They like to rely on defensive tactics, a move which has not yielded them desired results. They keep alternating between the 5th and 6th place in the points table as they are not able to gather enough points. At times they have played safe by settling for a “Tie” rather than pushing for a victory. Now they look a bit fatigued as the arduously long season takes a toll on the players in the bio bubble.
They have won only 2 games out of their last 5. They lost to Dabang Delhi in the last game which clearly indicated their inability to exploit the opposition in the absence of Naveen Express. Raiders Abhishek, Ajith and Shivam have done well, but they have not been able to loot points. The Mumba defence is run by Fazel Attrachali but right corner Rinku has been the only consistent defender.
U Mumba has executed 213 successful raids and 127 successful team tackles.
Though they have executed 17 Super tackles, this also shows that the opposition is able to hunt their players regularly leaving less players on the mat. U Mumba will have to relook at their strategies as they need to innovate the way they approach the game. They will need to be more aggressive, especially against the Puneri Paltan.
The Puneri Paltan squeezed them out in their last meeting with heavy raiding and successful tackles. The Paltan looks effervescent to spoil their party, U Mumba will have to play fearless kabaddi in the repeat of the Maharashtra derby.
This is a contest between U Mumba who are going through a mid life crisis and Puneri Paltan who have realized that they need to live a carefree life. Mumba are worried about making it to the play-offs while Puneri Paltan is happy to be party gate-crashers. With a scratchy defense will find it difficult to trap Puneri raiders especially Aslam and Mohit. They will have to avoid the Paltan scoring quickly. The Puneri Paltan are on a dream run pinching big teams by beating them by huge margins. This has been possible with raiders Aslam Inamdar, Nitin Tomar and Mohit Goyat looting points at will. Right cover Abhinesh is in great touch while defender Sombir have been accurate with his tackles. Fazel Attrachali has not had a great season in terms of earning tackle points, but he will have to start contributing more than ever. With a bettter raiding combination, the Puneri Paltan looks more strong than U Mumba. If Puneri raiders and defenders resonate, it will be a nightmare of U Mumba who are in desparate need of points to make it to the play-offs.
Looks like the Paltan may once again derail U Mumba in the repeat of the western derby.
Puneri Paltan will win.
