Season 8 of Pro Kabaddi has witnessed the maximum number of TIE games. Few teams have specialized in this SAFE Mode format, Tamil Thalaivas and Gujarat Fortune Giants being few of them. While the Tamil Thalaivas have tied 5 games out of 10, the Fortune Giants have settled for a tie in 3 out of 10 games. This will be another exciting contest between two very emotional teams. The Thalaivas have improved with every game and find themselves at the 7th spot with 30 points. The Fortune Giants are yet to fire as they are languishing in the 10th spot with only 2 victories out of 10 games.
The Thalaivas are mostly dependent on their guardians Surjeet and Sagar who are the top 2 defenders of the season. They have been consistent and lethal with their tackles. The Fortune Giants have been reckless, maverick and prone to emotional outbursts. They had a good outing against U Mumba but failed to win that game. Lack of confidence and momentum has hampered them throughout this season.
They will have an uphill task against the roaring Thaliavas who have realized the flavour of the season- you either win or your share the honours.
The Tamil Thalaivas are playing very intelligently as they have realized their strengths and weaknesses. They follow a defence heavy strategy and it has worked for them. Their main strength has been defenders Sagar and Captain Surjeet who are the top 2 defenders of the season. Both have a combined score of 74 tackle points between them. Both have 6 High 5's between them. They have been efficient as well as physically fit.
Because of the defence heavy strategy they have earned the lowest raid points among all teams- 180 in 10 games while they have conceded 321 points.
They have inflicted 14 all outs and conceded 14 too.
Another problem for the Thalaivas is the fitness of raider Pranpanjan who badly injured his wrist in the last game. He may not be able to take the field against the Fortune Giants.
But they have raider Manjeet who has emerged as their raiding spearhead. Manjeet has earned 72 points from 9 games. He has good support from Ajinkya Pawar who is a DoD specialist with 21 DoD raid points this season. Bhavani Rajput and MS Athul provide the necessary raiding support too. Thalaivas have been intelligent in forcing Ties rather than lose, but they will look forward to win by a huge margin against the Fortune Giants.
They wear Blue and Yellow jerseys alternately but whenever they enter the mat in yellow, they look unbeatable.
They say Fortune favours the brave but not the emotionally charged ones. Fortune Giants have under-performed and have themselves to blame for the misfortune this season. They are languishing at the 10th spot after 10 games with just 23 points. Their entire journey this season they have looked out of sorts and never packed a punch. They have not adapted to new ways, they still expect that their old tricks will earn them victories and they have been emotionally charged most of the times as they have not been able to win games.
They have a talented bunch of players but they need to resonate. They were in a commanding position against their traditional rivals U Mumba in their last match but could not maintain the grip and had to settle for a TIE.
They will take the Thalaiva's head on and this will be another uphill task for them. They will have to counter the deadly tackles of Surjeet and Sagar.
The Fortune Giants have done well in their raiding department with Rakesh Narwal, Rakesh and Ajay performing consistently. But it is their defence which has let them down time and again. Hawk Ravinder Pahal who is among the top 3 all time defenders in PKL is out of contention due to his inconsistent performance. The deadly combo of Sunil-Parvesh is no longer lethal and the Fortune Giants continue their silly unforced errors.
Only 10 Super Tackles and 4 Super raids.
Lowest all outs inflicted among all teams, Conceding 11 all outs in 10 games.
No defender in the top 10 this season.
The Fortune Giants need to get back to winning way, reboot themselves and most of all believe in their abilities.
Match number 66 of the season will be an emotionally charged encounter as the Fortune Giants are still looking for a winning formulae. They have not settled in a decent momentum and have make some glaring mistakes during previous matches. Against the Thalaiva's they will be forced to rethink as scoring against Surjeet and Sagar will be difficult for their raiders. With the Fortune Giant defence heavily dependent on left corner Girish Ernak, they will need to slow down the game as well as reduce unforced errors.
Tamil Thalaiva look to be playing very realistically. Their star raider Manjeet is performing well and he along with Ajinkya Pawar will look to earn raid points early in the first half. The Thalaiva's will try and exploit the lack of coordination among the Fortune Giants and force them into making mistakes early on. Except some daring Super Tackles from the Thalaiva's and lot of entertainment. Lets enjoy the PANGA.
Tamil Thalaiva will win by a slender margin.
