Both these teams are experiencing similar emotions. Both have some wonderful players but they have seen a massive dip in their performance over the last 2 weeks. Hence both teams are stuck midway in the points table. UP Yodha has looked more fatigued than any other team due to this long season. They lost 4 matches on the trot and lost the next won too. Fortunately they survived due to some silly errors by the Telegu Titans to beat them by 4 points. The Thalaiva will be playing their second match in 2 days. They looked clueless against the Haryana Steelers as they lost the game by 8 points. Both the teams are habitual of unforced errors which keeps them behind all the time. The UP Yodha has got raiders Surender and Pardeep but their defence is disintegrating very quickly.
For the Thalaivas, their defence seems to have taken giant leaps in the realm of confidence and tenacity. Veteran Surjeet and Sagar have got back their tackle timings, while their raiders are earning them a decent harvest.
This looks like another close match, don’t be surprised is this turns out to be another “Tie”.
Earlier in the season the Thalaiva’s were known as the “Comeback Kings” or “The Tie specialist”. They played safe, shared the exploits rather than loose the match. But they have won just 2 out of their last 5 games and find themselves stranded at the 8th position in the points table after 17 games. They looked fatigued, clueless as they lost to the Haryana Steelers in the last game. Their biggest issue has been unforced errors. They have the best defenders in the tournament, yet it is beyond imagination that they have not been able to capitalize on their strength. Defenders Sagar and Surjeet have been sensational with their tackles in most of the matches.
Manjeet, Bhavani Rajput and MS Athul are improving their raiding skills with every match.
Raider Ajinkya Pawar has garnished raiding points time and again. The Thalaiva’s are over dependent on Sagar and Surjeet while the other players seem to be going through a mix of form. They were able to earn only 8 tackle points in the last game and they also conceded an all-out. The Thalaiva does not have a lot of time to recover. As the tournament has moved into its last phase, they need to win all their remaining matches to squeeze themselves into the play-offs. The Tamil Thalaiva has moved up the points table upto the 5th place, hence it is not impossible for them. They have lost a bit of self belief and resonance in their team. They have a great opportunity to beat the UP Yodha this time. They beat them by 6 points last month as their defence blossomed and contributed. This time the Thalaiva has to be careful of raider Surender who can quickly exploit any lapse in defence and bull-doze the opposition.
The UP Yodha looked like an unbeatable team mid-season as they trounced some big teams. But off late they looked fatigued, especially their defenders. They won their last game against the Telegu Titans in a dramatic fashion. UP Yodha lagged throughout the match almost till the last minute of the match. They won only due to some silly mistakes by the Titans. This does not help them as they will feel lucky but will be low on confidence as they take on the Tamil Thalaiva.
Raider Surender Gill has been their most impressive raider. He has earned 143 points from 16 games. He has executed some daring Super raids where he has pushed 2-3 defenders like a bull past the mid line. He looks lean but he explosive on the mat. Pardeep Narwal has also contributed considering he has been a shadow on his own reputation. Raider Shrikant Jadhav has performed well in these conditions and has become their DoD specialist too.
The biggest concern of the Yodha is their defence. Though defenders Sumit and captain Nitesh were very effective in the first half of the tournament, they have not been able to continue their good form. Hence the team suffers due to lack from earnings from tackles and that leads to all-out situations. The UP Yodha has inflicted 21 all-outs while conceding 16. All-out situation has increased in the last few games. Currently 7th in the points table after playing 17 games,
Areas of improvement- Steal more bonus points, increase super tackles and inflict more all outs. UP Yodha do not have many matches left so as to secure their position for the knock-outs. They have played well in the season but if they do not buckle up they might just miss the bus.
UP Yodha and Tamil Thalaiva are at the crossroads this season. Both teams have overcome a bad start to play some exciting kabaddi. But most of their players looked fatigued as the long season takes a toll on the best. Both teams have displayed some ordinary performances in the last couple of weeks. Last time the Tamil Thalaiva hammered the Yodha but this time the situation is different. This will be a face-off in terms of which team makes lesser mistakes. Defenders of both teams have been slippery in their tackles while the raiders of both teams have done well. Tamil Thalaiva will expect “Thala” Sagar and “Chinn Thala” Surjeet to rebound and become their saviours. Raider Surender Gill and Shirkant Jadhav will try and break this Thala wall. Expect a high scoring game as both sides will make lot of unforced errors. A perfect recipe for another “TIE”.
