The struggle continues for the Telegu Titans who lost their first match of 2024 to the Puneri Paltan. Such was the onslaught from the Paltan, that the Titans could score just 18 points in the match. Without Pawan Sehrawat, the Telegu Titans are totally exposed. On the other hand, after a wobbly start, the Gujarat Giants have taken huge steps towards success. They are currently placed behind table toppers Puneri Paltan. Gujarat has won 6 out of its 10 matches.

For the Titans, it’s more about their mental setup rather than their form. Winning a habit which they have not been able to inculcate. Pawan Sehrawat is back after a break, but still the other members of the team look mentally fatigued. It will be quite difficult for the Titans to continue operating this way. The Gujarat Giants have been proactive with the changes to their starting 7. This has worked wonders as the Giants are keeping their opponents guessing. The Telegu Titans will face another uphill task as they take on the Gujarat Giants. Their fans will sincerely hope for a better performance.

Telugu Titans Preview

Fans of Telegu Titans are still wondering whether its season 9 or season 10 as their team is failing the same way as last year. Season 9 saw the Telegu Titans win just 2 matches in the entire season. This year, it’s nothing different. Their only claim to fame in season 10 was their victory over Patna Pirates. That too seems a long time ago. Captain Pawan Sehrawt is the lone warrior for the Titans. He has earned 78 raid points in 8 matches. None of the other members of the team have been able to contribute. There seems to be a lack of exuberance and fighting ability whenever the Titans enter the mat.

They have some very talented players in their squad, but coach Srinivas Reddy has not been able to instill the ethos of a team. The Titans have played 9 matches this season and their fans have begun to wonder whether their team will ever win. Telegu Titans have executed 398 raids in their 9 matches out of which only 131 have been successful. This is a very disappointing success rate. Their efficiency in team tackles is just about 32% which is the lowest among all teams. Hence it is very clear that the Titans have failed on all fronts.

Veteran defender Parvesh Bhainswal was in good form for the national team at the Asian Games. But he could not replicate the same for his franchisee. It is surprising to see the Titans not using all-rounder S Sanjeevi often. He displayed some surprising moves in the first few matches only to be benched. Pawan Sehrawat was back for their last match with the Puneri Paltan but he could score just 2 raid points. He was off the mat for most of the match. Left corner Sandeep Dhull scored a Hi 5 and surprisingly he was the highest scorer for the Telegu Titans in that match. Such was the mayhem. The Telegu Titans trailed by 13 points by half-time and suffered 4 all-outs in the match to ultimately lose by a margin of 36 points. Was this the final nail in the coffin? Can the Titans ever make a comeback? If not a comeback, can the Telegu Titans at least put up a fight for their fans? These are the glaring questions that they face as they take on the Gujarat Giants in another tough match.

Gujarat Giants Preview

The Gujarat Giants have taken a giant leap in this season. They are placed 2nd in the points table after playing 10 matches. The Gujarat Titans played their first season in 2017 as the Gujarat Fortune Giants. They displayed a unique brand of kabaddi and surprised everyone. Gujarat was the runner-ups in their debut season as well as in 2018. They came close to the title twice. But post season 6, the Gujarat Giants saw a dip in their performance. But they made a grand comeback during the recently held auctions as they grabbed the best defender in the PKL, Sultan Fazel Attrachali. His presence on the mat has made all the difference.

Coach Ram Mehar Singh took his former team, Patna Pirates to the summit few years back. He will be eager to repeat that success with the Gujarat Giants. They lost to Dabang Delhi in their last match by a margin of 7 points. This was a low scoring game, as the Gujarat Giants experimented a lot. This was a forced decision as Dabang Delhi kept up the pressure by keeping their main players off the mat. Captain Fazel Attrachali and Sombir were accurate in their hunting as each picked up 3 tackle points. Raider Prateek Dahiya earned 9 raid points but overall the Gujarat defense was a bit fragile. Gujarat has a team tackle success rate of 37% which needs to improve. Table toppers Puneri Paltan is operating at 59%. Raiding has been decent for the Giants as they have used the trio of Sonu, Rakesh and Prateek Dahiya along with all-rounder Rohit Gulia. Fazel Attrachali and Sombir has executed 49 successful tackles in 9 matches. The missing link is the support from other defenders.

Ravi Kumar and D Balaji have disappointed with their tackles and so has defender Arkam Shaikh. Hence the Gujarat Giants needs to solve this puzzle. But they have a golden opportunity to bounce back as they take on the listless Telegu Titans. This is a chance to try out new players apart from winning this match with a huge margin thus improving their overall score difference. Gujarat has lost just once to the Telegu Titans in 8 matches. This was way back in season 7. Hence the Giants will be confident of another victory. But they need to use this opportunity intelligently else they may slip at a very crucial juncture in the tournament.

Welcome to another possible thrashing at Mumbai as the Telegu Titans face the Gujarat Giants. The Titans have entered a whirlpool at the beginning of the season and they seem to be lost in deep sea. Captain Pawan Sehrawat has to reignite the fighting spirit among his team-mates. He has to lead from the front and score heavily. He will score a Super 10 but not a big one. Young raiders Robin Chaudhary and Praful Zaware will find it tough to handle the Gujarat defense but they will manage to score. The Telegu defense may crumble again leaking too many points.

The Gujarat Giants will be aggressive from the first raid itself. They will take a big lead by half-time. This will allow them to experiment with new players in the second half. Defenders Sombir and Fazel will be ruthless with their tackles. One of them will score a Hi 5. Raider Prateek Dahiya will score a Super 10 while Rakesh will be useful. It will be interesting to see whether the Gujarat Giants play typically slow or will they score heavily to exploit the Titans and improve their score difference.

Gujarat Giants will win.
