Welcome to the contest of struggling teams! UP Yodha and the Telegu Titans have gone through such disappointments that they have become naive. The Titans seem to be going through similar experiences as season 9, but UP shocked themselves with the kind of performance they have been able to come up in season 10. Placed 11th in the points table, the doors for the play-off are almost closed for them. The Titans have won just a match in the entire season. At least they won 2 games last year, but the wait for another win still continues for the team from Hyderabad. 

The Titans got thrashed by the Bengaluru Bulls in their last outing. They could not come up with a spirited performance even in front of their home crowd. None of their raiders could score a Super 10, neither their defenders were able to hunt. This has been the story in most of their matches this year. The Yodha would consider itself unlucky as they lost the Patna Pirates by just 3 points. Their defense almost won them the match as they missed out on the killer punch. But UP has a golden opportunity to exploit the fragile Telegu Titans and give a late thrust to their flagging fortunes.

Telugu Titans Preview

Many teams are known as slow starters, but the Titans take their own sweet time. Last season they surprised everyone by beating the Patna Pirates in their third game only to wait till the end of the season to win another match. Season 10 has been worse for the Telegu Titans as they have been able to win just 1 out of the 13 matches played. The team combination was major issue as they concentrated on getting marquee player Pawan Sehrawat during the auctions. While doing so, they forgot to build a strong team around him. Though Pawan has earned 114 raid points in the season, he did not get much support from the team. Hence the Telegu Titans find themselves stranded at a familiar spot, last in the points table!

The drubbing at the hands of the Bengaluru Bulls in their last match was a gentle reminder for them. None of their raiders could score a Super 10. One can’t expect Pawan to operate like a machine all the time. He too lost his nerves as he earned just 7 raid points. Most of their players were off the mat for over 30 minutes. Hence the Titans actually played with a lot of new players almost after every couple of raids. Surprisingly their defense was hot in the first half as they led by 3 points at half-time. It was the first time in the season that they did not concede an all-out in the first half of any match. But once again the Titans gifted 33 team points to the Bulls in the next 20 minutes apart from conceding 3 all-outs. This was an anti-thesis for Telegu Titans in front of their fans. 

Telegu Titans have conceded 563 points in 13 matches apart from 33 all-outs.

Their team raid success rate is a dismal 31% while their successful team tackle rate is under 33%. They cannot expect to win games with such performances. 

The play-offs are now a distant dream for the Titans. But they can motivate themselves by becoming party-poopers. They will be up against the UP Yodha who are more or less of the same page as the Titans. The Hyderabadi team is overly dependent on Pawan Sehrawat. Young raiders Praful Zaware and Omkar Patil have done well but they need to improve their performance in order to complement the efforts of their captain Pawan. Season 10 looks like a games of thorns for the Telegu Titans. Can they believe in themselves and go for their second win of the season?

U.P. Yoddha Preview

The UP Yodha has intelligently used its resources in its first few matches. They realized it last season that Dubki King Pardeep Narwal will be the main target for all their opponents. Hence they used him as a side-kick to Surinder Gill and this strategy has worked for them. But without Surinder in the last few matches, the UP Yodha has fallen like a pack of cards. They have been relegated to the 11th spot in the points table with just 3 victories in 14 matches. They have lost 5 consecutive matches and this has adversely affected their confidence. They lack the killer punch which was quite evident in their last match against the Patna Pirates. 

Defenders Hitesh and Sumit went all-out against the Pirates and it looked as if the Yodha has suddenly come alive. In the absence of Surinder Gill, young raiders Gagana Gowda and Shivam Chaudhary put up a spirited performance. But legend Pardeep Narwal was scratchy as he could score just 4 raid points. the Yodha trailed by 6 points at half-time but their young brigade helped them to close the gap in the next 20 minutes. But it was a tall order for UP as Patna Pirates defended their turf tactically and the Yodha lost golden opportunity by just 3 points. It is more or less end of the road for UP Yodha in season 10. A team which such fantastic players is placed 11th in the points table as their future looks bleak.

UP Yodha has earned some impressive numbers in season 10, but that did not get converted into victories for the team. They have earned 489 team points while conceding 526.

They have a success rate of 36% in team raids while an efficiency of about 38% in team tackles. 

UP has inflicted 18 but conceded 21 all-outs in 14 matches.

Defender Sumit has executed 39 successful tackles in 14 games. But the inefficiency of Pardeep Narwal and the absence of Surinder Gill has put a huge roadblock in their journey of season 10. The Yodha defeated the Telegu Titans on 9th December. This was just the first week of the tournament. UP looked fresh and dominant. But over the next 13 matches, the Yodha has lost its sharpness as well as faith in its abilities. They still have an outside chance to sneak in to the next round. But for that, UP will have to win all their remaining matches with a huge margin. A clash with the out of form Telegu Titans presents them with this rare chance.

The Telegu Titans and the UP Yodha will be playing their second match in 2 days. The Titans lost to the Bulls while the Yodha lost to the Patna Pirates. It will be interesting to see how much fatigued these teams will be as they enter the arena. Telegu Titans looked totally off-color except from the first 15 minutes of their match against the Bulls. They led by 3 points but them slipped into oblivion in the next 30 minutes. 

Pawan Sehrawat may put up a brave face but he may not be able to save his team. The Telegu defense too looks very fragile. Left corner Sandeep Dhull may just trouble Pardeep Narwal initially. Right corner Mohit and raider Omkar Patil may earn a few points. But overall, the Telegu Titans look set for another thrashing. UP Yodha may just benefit from this situation. Pardeep Narwal will score a Super 10 while defenders Sumit, Hitesh and Ashu Singh will trouble every Telegu raider. UP will take a huge lead by half-time and win this match by a big margin.
