U Mumba was looking very strong mid-season but suddenly lost focus. They have lost back-to-back games which have dented their chances for the playoff. The major concern is the sudden decrease in their raiding income which has made it difficult for Mumba to win matches.
The Bengal Warriors have been oscillating between domination and amateur display. They have been winning alternate matches as they aim to book their spot in the next round. They too look fatigued. Also, the Warriors do not have a vibrant bench that can replace the regulars. The Bengal Warriors are totally dependent on Maninder Singh and defender Girish Ernak.
U Mumba defeated the Warriors earlier in the season. It was the hot and spicy Mumba defense that broke the back of the Warriors in that match. But a lot has changed since then as U Mumba looks more vulnerable than the Bengal Warriors.
Former Champions look fatigued after a long season. They played well in patches throughout the season but looked promising. Mumba was slow to take off but they gathered a good rhythm on the way to trouble a lot of teams. Their fans thought that Mumba had got a decent combination on the mat which produced some unbelievable results with some great team effort.
But with the arrival of the business end of the tournament, they look like a spent force. They have lost 3 consecutive games. First, they lost to the Jaipur Pink Panthers. It was a 10-point defeat exposing chinks in the armor. This was followed by a shocking defeat to the Telegu Titans and then by the Tamil Thalaiva. These results have completely taken their fans by surprise.
The Telegu Titans completed the heist by exploiting the weak Mumba defense. Mumba was leading by a point at halftime but conceded an all-out in the second half allowing the Titans to steal the show. The Tamil Thalaiva surprised Mumba by completely blocking their raid earnings. Even though the Thalaiva was playing its second match in 2 days, it looked fresher than Mumba. U Mumba lost it completely as they could manage just 9 raid points in the entire match.
This is a major concern for Mumba as it gets ready to take on the Bengal Warriors in an all-important encounter. Mumba cannot afford to lose from here. Unfortunately, they seem to be running out of options in terms of raiders. Ghuman Singh, Ashish, and Jai Bhagwan have been good but not devastating. This has forced U Mumba to rely on their defense which has been slippery on occasion.
U Mumba has executed 158 successful team tackles this season which includes 22 Super tackles. But their success rate in team raids is just 31% which is the lowest among all the teams. This will be the last chance for U Mumba to make a comeback of sorts else they will be left sulking after a brilliant season.
The Bengal Warriors have displayed brilliance in phases. They looked comfortable initially in the season but as the matches progressed, they broke down often. Their over-dependence on a couple of players is a worrying factor. That is the reason they have got stuck in the middle of the points table and may just miss the bus for the playoff if they do not win all their remaining matches.
Smiling Assassin Maninder Singh has led from the front. He has earned 185 raid points from 141 successful raids. The success rate of 42 % in team raids is courtesy of Mr. Maninder. He has got the support of raiders like Shrikant Jadhav and Deepak Hooda, but unfortunately, the Warriors have not been able to build the deadly trio of raiders that you need to win the tournament.
Their inconsistency has cost the Warriors several games as they find themselves at the 5th spot in the points table with 48 points. They have all the firepower but the Warriors seem to have forgotten how and when to use these guns.
Left corner Girish Ernak has been their best defender with 45 successful tackles in 14 games. But apart from Girish none of the other defenders have been consistent. The rise of Deepak Niwas Hooda was something that the Warriors were waiting for a long time.
Bengal Warriors have conceded 550 team points this season.
They have inflicted 25 all-outs in 16 matches while conceding 18. But these all-outs conceded have come at crucial moments in the match, especially in the second half which takes away all the advantage from the Warriors.
The Bengal Warriors have also been guilty of low-intensity and slow starts. In many games, they have been very slow to take off and end up on the losing side.
The Warriors will take on a rusty U Mumba against whom they do not enjoy a great record. The Warriors beat them thrice in 2019 but since then, Mumba has always dominated. The Warriors lost to U Mumba earlier this season and it is time that they avenge that defeat.
U Mumba may have a better record against the Bengal Warriors but at this point in the tournament, they look vulnerable. Mumba crushed the Warriors by 11 points earlier in the season, but U Mumba looks fatigued. U Mumba will try and surprise the Warriors with some new players.
Raiders Ashish, Ghuman, and Jai Bhagwan will work overtime but may not be able to earn a lot of raid points. Defenders Rinku and Mohit may hunt some of the Bengal Warriors but they will not be able to tame Maninder Singh.
Bengal Warriors will depend on their trump cards, Maninder and Girish Ernak. Girish along with defender D Balaji will make like difficult for the Mumba raiders. Maninder Singh will score a big Super 10 to take his team past the finish line.
Bengal Warriors will win.
