This will be the first match of 2022 in the league and also the first of the triple Panga weekend.
After a couple disappointing results, U Mumba finally got back to winning ways beating Jaipur Pink Panthers 37-28. They now stand 3rd in the table with an impressive score difference of 21.
UP Yodhas on the other hand are winless in their last two games, drawing vs the Gujarat Giants 32-32. In 8th place, they have a score difference of -7.
While 4 points separate the two teams in the points table, their in-game numbers are quite similar. Both teams have made 31 tackles in their 4 games and make 17.25 successful raids per match.
Even historically, nothing separates the two teams. In their 6 encounters, both teams have won 3 each with U Mumba winning their last encounter in season 7.
Pardeep Narwal looks good but has not set the mat on fire, but the Mumba defence can be tricky on occasions. U Mumba have also been guilty of being a bit lazy in the first half. This will be a tasty encounter with a face-off between one of the best defenders- Attrachali and one of the best raiders- Pardeep.
U Mumba will be happy that captain Fazell Atrachali is back with the points after two games with blank scores. Raiding still remains U Mumba's strengths with the lethal duo of Abhishek and Ajith. They have scored 36 and 39 points respectively. V Ajith’s rocking performance against his former team Tamil Thalaivas played a big role as U Mumba overturned a 10 point deficit to manage a tie.
Ajith has now scored 26 points in his last two games with 55.56% successful raids.
The team will be disheartened with a tie against the Thalaivas. After an impressive comeback early in the second half, a poor show by the defenders in the dying moments took the full 5 points away from their hands.
Key Insights:
60 successful raids between the duo of Abhishek and Ajith in 4 games.
46% successful raids as a team.
4 super raids as a team, 2 super tackles.
Most all outs inflicted in the league (8) and least all-outs conceded (2) as well.
Slow starters UP Yoddha who impressed last season with a third place finish will need to get their engines running. While their defence was impressive last season, it hasn't been up to the mark so far. Even their raiding department has been hot and cold in the first four games.
Star Raider Pardeep Narwal managed a super 10 in his last match but he still doesn't look at his best. This form is the key for the Yodha's. Surender Gill is averaging just 4.5 successful raids per game. Even Rohit Tomar looks cold on the mat, scoring just 3.25 raids per game. This trio will need to change things up quickly as the matches heat up in the new year.
As a team, they have to inflict more all-outs and score more bonus points.
Key Insights:
Pardeep Narwal has a 42.65% raid efficiency. But he has 0 super raids to his name so far.
Nitesh Kumar and Sumit, who were one of the best defenders of season 7 have managed only 17 successful tackles together in 4 games. Ashu Singh has contributed 8 on his own.
4 super tackles in 4 games as a team.
Can improve DoD raid points, only 9 scored in 4 games.
U Mumba saw few setbacks in their 2nd and 3rd game of the season, but look like a formidable side. Yodhas has started slow, but can get firing once Pardeep Narwal hits form.
In-form Ajith can run riot for U Mumba against a new and inexperienced UP defence. Based on current form, U Mumba should win this match but Narwal's performance could prove to be a thorn in the flesh. Surender Gill can help Pardeep as a side kick, while the Yodha will depend on Sumit and Ashu Singh for better grips and successful tackles. Captain Nitesh Kumar needs to take better decisions in the right corner.
Pardeep has to be careful as the U Mumba defence looks very sharp with Attrachali, Rinku, Sunil Siddhagavali, Magshoudlou and Harendra Kumar among points in their last match.
This will be a contest of sharp moves from the defence against the innovative escape plans of the raiders.
This looks like another tie, but U Mumba will win a close contest.
