As expected UP Yodha were off to a good start as they beat the Jaipur Pink Panthers. It was a hard fought match as the Pink Panthers fought neck to neck. After trailing by a couple of points at the end of the first half, Yodha got their act together as  Surender Gill, Pardeep Narwal and Ashu Singh consistently earned raid points. It was the defense of the UP Yodha that saved the blushes for them. Defenders Nitesh, Shubham Kumar and Sumit trapped Arjun Deshwal and Bhavani Rajput efficiently. This helped them overcome the deficit as well as maintain a slender margin till the end of the game.

U Mumba struggled in their inaugural bout as they could not settle down to a decent combination. Raider Ghuman Singh was impressive in his raiding, but there was too much confusion in the Mumba defense as they made advanced moves as well as unsuccessful tackles. This back-fired as they lost to defending champions Dabang Delhi by 14 points. New coach Anil Chaprana will have to address this issue early on in the season if Mumba wants to stay in the top half of the points table.

Though raiders Ashish and Jai Bhagwan supported Ghuman Singh well through the match, it was the defense that let Mumba down. Currently their biggest concern is their right corner cover combination which was ineffective in their first match. This will be another difficult match for Mumba as they try and find their rhythm early in the season.

U Mumba Preview

Without superstars, U Mumba will have to work overtime to forge new combinations. Coach Anil Chaprana would have realized after their loss to Dabang Delhi, that his team will need to fire on all cylinders at the earliest. Every team takes its time to settle down but U Mumba have a bigger issue. They seem to be clueless about the proceedings which results in advanced tackles and unforced errors. They were always behind their opponents through their first match.
U Mumba have some exciting young players, but they need to given a vision. Mumba was on the backfoot through out season 8 as they ended in the bottom half of the points table. They have a huge fan base and they are former champions too. They need to take baby steps towards building a new team which will be aggressive as well as hungry.
They have a decent raiding team in Ghuman Singh, Ashish and Jai Bhagwan. Captain Surender Singh is experienced enough to inspire youngsters under him. Senior defenders like Harendra and Rinku Singh will have to groom other young defenders like Kiran Magar, Shivansh Thakur and Rahul Setpal.
Fans have been used to the aggressive Mumba team with Sultan Fazel Attrachali, Abhishek, Ajith at the helm of affairs. But this is a new season with new players. There will be multiple challenges but Mumba will need to find some character. They have entertained everyone with their unconventional style of kabaddi as well as their new say die attitude.
They are up against a strong UP Yodha side which has a very strong defense. It will be a double challenge for Mumba as their defenders will have to come up with traps to hunt down Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill while make inroads through the Yodha defense consistently. This will only be possible with some self-belief as well as reducing unforced errors.

U.P. Yoddha Preview

Semi-finalist of season 8 had a dream start to their campaign as they beat Jaipur Pink Panthers in their season opener. Though this was a close game, UP Yodha managed to display all the right moves. They trailed by a couple of points as the spirited Pink Panthers trapped raiders Pardeep Narwal and Rohit Tomar. This led to the Yodha trailing by 2 points at half time. But Surender Gill who was one of the architects of UP Yodha’s success in season 8, displayed the same tenacity and consistency to earn 8 raid points in the match.
UP Yodha will also be very happy, the way their defense performed in their first game. The trio of Nitesh Kumar, Sumit and Shubham kumar tackled successfully. They got the better of Rahul Chaudhary and Bhavani Rajput to put the Pink Panthers under pressure. Right Cover Ashu Singh was impressive as he scored 4 tackle points while assisting on various occasions.
UP Yodha conducted 14 successful raids as well as got the Pink Panthers all out at a crucial moment in the match. This helped them sneak past the Panthers in the nail biter.
Surender Gill and Pardeep Narwal shared 16 raid points between them but their biggest concern will be the amount of time that Pardeep was off the mat. Since last season, most of the opposition teams have figured out a way to keep Pardeep of the mat. This has been compensated by Surender Gill to a large extent. It will also be interesting to see how the Yodha uses experienced raider Nitin Tomar’s services.
UP Yodha will get another opportunity to test their bench against U Mumba. This will allow players like Gurdeep, left corner Jaipdeep and Kenyan raider James Kamweti to get some match time.

U Mumba has a daunting task ahead. Even though this is just the beginning of the season, they need to get their act together as the earliest. They seem quite lost in their first game against the Dabang Delhi. They have a young, vibrant and talented team which can be a handful for any opposition. The biggest concern for U Mumba is their defense. Captain Surinder, Harendra and Rinku Singh will have play out of their skin to inspire other team members. They will have to trap Surender Gill and Pardeep Narwal early on and keep them off the mat for long periods.
UP Yodha have a wonderful opportunity to score huge win over the less  fancied Mumba side. They were a bit slow to begin with in their first game against the Pink Panthers, but they can slaughter U Mumba very early in the game. Pardeep Narwal needs to come up with new tricks as he seems to predictable and the opposition has decoded most of his moves. A big win for UP Yodha will help them build momentum in this long and arduous season.
