This will the contest of unequal’s at the struggling UP Yodha will take on table toppers Puneri Paltan. Such has been the terror of the Paltan that they hammered Telegu Titans by 36 points in their last match. On the other hand, the Yodha lost their match to the Patna Pirates. Pardeep Narwal scored 21 points but herculean task was not enough to get his team past the finish line. The Puneri defense was spicy and lethal against the Titans. This was probably the best score from tackles by any team in season 10.
Hence this will be a battle of the unequal’s. Puneri Paltan is on top of the points table with 36 points from 8 matches while the UP Yodha is languishing at the 10th spot with only 3 victories from the 10 matches that they have played so far. This will be the last match at Noida as the caravan moves to Mumbai from 5th January. UP Yodha will have nightmares as they enter this encounter?
The UP Yodha has disappointed its fan in season 10. With such a wonderful bunch of players in their squad, they seem to be in a different mood all together in this season. They have been able to win just 3 matches out of their 10 games. The Yodha has not just under-performed but they have been wayward. They have the legend Pardeep Narwal along with partner Surender Gill. One would expect this to be an unbeatable team. Both have scored 167 raid pointsi n 10 matches, yet the Yodha has won just 3 matches. This is quite shocking and unacceptable.
UP Yodha had to win against the Patan Pirates in their last match to keep them alive in the tournament. Dubki King Pardeep Narwal hammered 21 points in the match. This included 17 touch points and 4 bonus points. Yet the Yodha lost the match. There was a total breakdown of everyone except Pardeep. Out of the total 41 team points, Pardeep scored 21. The defenders could garner just 10 tackle points apart from conceding 3 all-outs in the match. This has been the pattern for the UP Yodha throughout this tournament. They have witnessed individual brilliance but no team effort. Can the Yodha revive its fortunes mid-way through the season?
The Yodha has some wonderful statistics to their credit. They have a success rate of 38% while their efficiency in team tackles is 41%. Their raiders are in the top 5 while defenders Sumit, Nitesh Kumar and Gurdeep have executed 73 successful tackles in 10 matches. What more can one ask for? Yet UP Yodha has gone through a brain-fade in almost each match.
They will be up against the marauding Puneri Paltan who have thrashed every team they have faced. Even though individual UP players are in form, they may not survive the Puneri onslaught. Will the UP Yodha succumb to another bashing before they travel to Mumbai?
Puneri Paltan is playing like “Madmax”. They have won 7 out of their 8 matches as they are comfortably placed at the top of the points table. Except for the 1 match they lost, each victory has been a sensational one. They beat the Telegu Titans in their last match by a margin of 36 points. It was raining points for the Paltan from the raiders as well as their defenders. This has been the specialty of Pune. Whenever they dominate, Pune does not sympathize with its opponents.
Puneri defenders scored 20 tackle points out of the total 54 team points. They added more points than their raiders in the first half. Defenders Abhinesh, Mohammedreza and Gaurav Khatri each scored a Hi5. This was a match were records tumbled every minute. Raider Mohit Goyat scored a Super 10 while Aslam and Pankaj Mohite were just above average. The bigger question for all the other teams is, how to escape this thrashing from the Puneri Paltan? Do they have any antidote?
The Paltan has a success rate of 43% in team raids while their efficiency in team tackles is about 59%. These are unbelievable statistics for any team. Pune is on top in both these sections. They have inflicted 19 all-outs in just 8 matches while conceding just 4 which is the lowest among all teams. Puneri Paltan does not have any of its raiders in the top 10. But their collective effort is enough for the team to fly past any opposition. Mohammedreza has executed 29 successful tackles in the tournament while defenders Abhinesh and Gaurav Khatri have collectively executed 51 tackles in 8 matches.
But has Pune peaked too early in the tournament? Can they continue this hot form till the play-off? They will be up against the struggling UP Yodha. Pune has won just 4 out of its 10 encounters with the Yodha. But last year, the Yodha did beat the Paltan in one of the league matches. But season 10 truly belongs to the Paltan. They seem to be doing nothing wrong on the mat. It will be a “Mission Impossible” for any team to stop the Puneri Paltan.
Welcome to the last match to be played at Noida. The UP Yodha will enter the mat with a huge burden as they get ready to face the Puneri Paltan. UP raiders Pardeep scored 21 points in his last match, but escaping from the clutches of the Puneri defense will be an uphill task even for Pardeep. He may not be able to score a Super 10. Surender Gill will perform better as compared to the last match. But the biggest question will be whether the UP defense survive the Paltan’s onslaught. As seen in this tournament, UP will concede at least 2 all-outs in the match.
The Puneri raiders will be quick to exploit UP defenders. The will take a huge lead by half-time. Their defenders will try and keep Pardeep off the mat for long durations thus putting the Yodha under pressure. Two of the three Puneri defenders will score a Hi 5. This will be a high scoring match again as the Paltan will score heavily in the second half. Expect another spectacular performance from Puneri Paltan.
Puneri Paltan will win.
