The SCG a.k.a the Sydney Cricket Ground is one of the oldest cricket venues in Australia. It is a multi-purpose sports stadium used predominantly for cricket but has also played host to a number of Australian rules football, rugby league, rugby union, and association football games over its century-long history. It is situated in the Moore Park suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The stadium first opened its doors way back in 1848 and is the home ground for the New South Wales Blues cricket team, the Sydney Sixers of the Big Bash League, and the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League. The Venues NSW is in charge of maintaining the ground facilities.
Equipped with a formal seating capacity of 44000, the stadium has also got its remarkable floodlight system which was installed in recent times. In 1878, the Member’s Pavillion was constructed primarily consisting of a cast iron, brick, and corrugated iron structure with a clock tower.
The Pavilion has ample space to house dressing rooms for the Australian National Cricket Team, New South Wales cricket teams, as well as visiting teams. Subsequently, in 1896, the Ladies' Pavilion was also built which was predominantly used by female members but is now open to the rest of the public. The stadium also got its first scoreboard around the same time just two weeks prior to the 1895-1896 inter-colonial match.
The venue staged its first Test in 1882 between Australia and England and its first ODI in 1979 between the same opponents as well. However, the venue had to wait all the way till 2007 to host its maiden T20I fixture between Australia and England. Some of the memorable moments at this venue feature Lara's masterful 277 in 1992-93 and paceman Fanie De Villiers' match haul of 10 for 123 at the forefront of South Africa's amazing five run win in 1993-94

Sydeny Cricket Ground, Sydney Pitch Report
The pitch at the SCG offers generous help to the batters as the ball comes onto the bat nicely allowing them to hit the ball through the line. It has traditionally been a high-scoring venue, especially under lights. However, the surface also has a tendency of getting roughed with time thus making the spinners a potent asset on this wicket. There is also some benefit to be had if you are a quick bowler as well. The surface’s hard nature enables the bowlers to extract steep bounce and pace. In the longest format, the red ball tends to do a bit in the air especially if there is any weather around.
As current figures stand, SCG has seen some big scores in the T20 format. In 77 T20 games played to date, teams have managed to breach the 190-run mark in 13 games. The highest T20 score achieved at this venue is Australia’s 221-5 in 2007. Additionally, the SCg has also seen a few other instances of 200-plus scores. The average score batting first stands at an impressive high of 171 and batting first should give the teams a marginal upper hand as nearly 53% of the games have been won by teams who opt to bat first.
The SCG has a playing surface area that is 156m long and 154m wide. The square boundaries at this stadium are around 68m while the straighter boundary is around 80m, being the biggest one at the stadium.
