Bit strange to be practicing in a park: Dravid on facilities in New York

The facilities in the New York for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024  have already made it to the headlines for a few controversial incidents. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 77 against South Africa and that contributed to another new debate regarding pitch. Amidst this, India head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about ‘strange’ experience of ‘practicing in a park’.

Dravid Disapproves: Practicing at a Public Park

On the day when drop-in pitches for the T20 World Cup in the USA were criticised, Dravid said, "It's a bit strange to be practicing in a park." He added, "Obviously at the World Cups you'd be in big stadiums or you'd be at cricket stadiums traditionally. But you know, we're at a public park and practicing."

Teams playing in New York have been training at Cantiague Park which is about five miles away from the ground. This did not really amuse Dravid who has experience of playing all the big tournaments for India at iconic cricket stadiums across the globe. India are all set to start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on July 5 by taking on Ireland in New York.

High Hopes for Drop-In Pitches

Damian Hough, the head curator of Adelaide Oval, who was in-charge of the drop-in pitches, had earlier said, "We are excited to see the arrival of the pitches here in New York. We're now focused on bedding in the pitches here in New York to ensure we're delivering an end product of the highest quality”. However, the responses have been dissatisfactory after first four matches of the tournament. Former cricketers like Irfan Pathan, Sanjay Manjrekar took the social media to share their disapproval of such pitches for T20 cricket as the cricket betting odds might constantly vary resulting in a unpredictable match situations.
