India came up with a clinical show in the opening T20I of the five-match series against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as they won the game comprehensively by seven wickets. The star of the match was Abhishek Sharma, who played an attacking knock of 79 off 34 balls as India chased down the target of 173 posted by England with seven overs to spare.

Opening the innings, Abhishek Sharma was a treat to watch with his T20 batting masterclass as aggression merged with finesse. His innings packed 5 boundaries and 8 sixes, leaving England's bowling attack into pieces as it laid a concrete foundation for India's chase.
Sanju Samson also shared a crucial 26-run partnership with Tilak Verma, who made 19 off 16 balls. Both were very positive in their approach to keep India ahead in the game as the English bowlers tried to claw their way back into the contest. When Sharma was dismissed in the 15th over, India needed only 30 runs to win.
"It's always special to play at Eden Gardens, and I'm glad I could contribute in a team's win", Sharma said at the post-match presentation. "The pitch was very good to bat on and I just looked to make most of the powerplay."
A Mixed Bag for England's Innings
Earlier in the night, England, who were asked to bat first, could manage only 132 in 20 overs. Jos Buttler anchored their innings with an assured 68 off 44 balls, while Harry Brook chipped in with a brisk 17. However, India's bowlers, spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh 2/17 and Hardik Pandya 2/42, did not allow England to capitalise on a good start.Despite a flurry of boundaries in the death overs, England’s total seemed below par on a batting-friendly Eden Gardens track.
