Alyssa Healy faces a tight timeline to recover in time for Australia’s upcoming ODI series against India. The star cricketer has been sidelined from the rest of the WBBL due to a knee injury. Her availability for the crucial matches hangs in the balance as she works on her recovery. The injury has sparked concern for the Australian team, with Healy’s presence being vital for their campaign against India in the highly anticipated series.
Alyssa Healy Ruled Out for Remaining WBBL
The Sydney Sixers announced on Saturday that Australia’s skipper Alyssa Healy would miss the remainder of the WBBL due to a left knee injury. With the Women’s ODI series against India set to begin just four days after the WBBL final, her participation in the international matches is now uncertain. Her absence would be a significant blow for both the Sixers and the national team as she races against time to recover ahead of the crucial series.
Alyssa Healy missed the Sydney Sixers’ recent match against Brisbane Heat, stepping back from keeping duties as part of her injury management plan. She entered the WBBL with lingering concerns from a foot injury that had prematurely ended her T20 World Cup campaign, further complicating her current fitness status.
Australia is gearing up for a three-match ODI series against India, set to be followed by another series in New Zealand during the Christmas period. Healy’s recovery timeline remains critical as the team prepares for these important fixtures.
Her injury is not expected to jeopardize her participation in the multi-format Ashes, which kick off with an ODI at North Sydney on January 12. She is set to undergo evaluation in the coming weeks to determine her readiness for Australia’s upcoming series. The selectors are likely to finalize the squad next weekend, factoring in her recovery progress. Despite the setback, there is optimism that Healy will be fit for the crucial Ashes campaign.
Alyssa Healy Opened up About Her Injury
On her comeback from a foot injury, Alyssa Healy acknowledged that careful management would be essential throughout the summer. She hinted at the possibility of taking a cautious approach to balance recovery and performance during the packed cricketing schedule, underscoring the importance of staying fit for key matches in the coming months.
She said, “ There are higher powers sitting above that are quite vocal in what can and can't happen, which I completely understand. Being skipper as well is a fairly big role for me. I want to be available for as much of the summer as I can.”
She added, “ I've hardly played a game for the Sixers for the past two seasons, and it's a place I really enjoy playing cricket. I want to be available for every game that I possibly can, but the reality is that might not be the case. It's going to be managing the pain, function and what I can and can't do [all summer]. How I pull up from games is going to be really important as well."
Her injury is a major setback for the Sixers, who must secure victories in their final three games to reach the WBBL finals. If she will be unavailable for international fixtures, Tahlia McGrath is likely to step in as captain once more, having successfully led the team during the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
