Ankit Bawne Handed One-Match Ranji Ban for Dissent

Highest run-scorer and star batter of Maharashtra, Ankit Bawne is dismissed by BCCI for one match due to dissent shown against the call of on-field umpire in the Ranji Match.

The one-match ban by BCCI declared against Ankit Bawne for refusing to return back to pavilion created a clash as many players stood in Bawne’s support. It was backed by statements questioning the decision-making of on-field umpires as well.

BCCI Decision Issued to Maharashtra Team for Group A Ranji Match

Ongoing Ranji Trophy Match going at Nashik’s Golf Club took a pause when Ankit Bawne, a veteran batter of Maharashtra team showed dissent against the umpire’s call.

  • The incident took place during the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season’s sixth round match between Maharashtra Vs Baroda.
  • The decision is with reference to the match at the MCA ground in November, 2024 before the white-ball tournaments began.
  • Reportedly, Bawne was caught by Amit Shukla and Shubham Rohilla in slips by services but did not agree to the umpire’s decision of marked ‘OUT’. He disagreed to the final call.
  • For about 15 minutes, Ankit Bawne did not leave the ground due to disagreement but DRS unavailability left him with no other way.

MCA Confirms the One-Match Ban for Bawne

The Maharashtra Cricket Association shared an official statement regarding Bawne’s absence from the match against Baroda due to the ban imposed by BCCI.

  • MCA also clarified that he will be playing his part to ensure success of the Maharashtra cricket Team from the next match onwards.
  • They ascertained the respect towards decisions made by BCCI and will retain the protocols and disciplines related to the cricket game.
  • Team is presently concentrating on putting their best foot forward for the Ranji Trophy and awaiting Ankit’s performance in the following matches.

Maharashtra’s Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Backed Bawne as Per Reports

Despite having definite evidence of the ball bouncing back prior the Rohilla’s catch, Ankit Bawne was unable to challenge the call as there was no DRS facility available. Renowned Coach of Maharashtra team, Sulakshan Kulkarni lashed over the umpire.

The incident highlights the importance of accurate decision-making in cricket, especially in major tournaments. In a similar vein, when it comes to betting on cricket, players and enthusiasts often seek out platforms offering best cricket betting odds to maximize their experience and rewards. Just as every detail counts in a game, finding the right odds can make all the difference in the betting world.

Coach gave a statement saying that players are imposed with dissent and fines but there’s no action taken on umpire assessment. Certain erring umpires solemnize the calls and ruin the game’s spirit. He justified the anger burst of Bawne over the incident.

Even Ruturaj Gawde, regular captain of the Maharashtra team who was not present during the incident also supported Bawne. He was on India A Australia tour then and shared images on his social media account about the dismissal.

Gawde agreed that Bawne was clearly not out and umpire’s decision should have been questioned.
