AUS vs IND 2ND Test - Andrew McDonald Confirms No Big Chances to the Pink Ball Test at Adelaide
Following a horror show in Perth which saw the hosts succumb to their second-biggest Test defeat by 295 runs, Australia coach & selector, Andrew McDonald insisted on proceeding with the same lineup and brushed any possibility of making any radical changes.
That defeat also marked the end of a dominant winning streak for the hosts. India's stand-in captain Jaspirt Bumrah, tormented the Aussie batting lineup in the first innings with a five-fer, and his exploits were later backed up by twin centuries from Jaiswal and Kohli which put the tourists on the course of a famous win at the Optus Stadium.
Speaking after the conclusion of the game, McDonald stressed how crucial it is to select the right set of players depending on the conditions but later confirmed that the same playing eleven as Perth will travel to Adelaide for the pink-ball Test.
“It is always a consideration, wherever you go in the world in terms of the personnel you pick for conditions. The people in that changeroom are the same people that will be in Adelaide."
McDonald Opens Up on Labuschagne's Form
Although the Australia coach made his intentions clear not to make any changes to the lineup ahead of the Adelaide Test, he did go on to highlight Labuschagne's stark drop in form. Despite his poor outing with the bat where he lasted as many as 57 balls just to score five runs in Perth, McDonald remains confident that the 30-year-old can turn things around very quickly.
"That's an ongoing discussion and that ebbs and flows in players' careers, so at the moment he's in one of those patches and no doubt he'll be getting critiqued externally. But internally we're really confident that, at his best, he's the player that we need."
Furthermore, McDonald also rules out the possibility of Australian players returning to domestic cricket ahead of their second Test outing against India which commences at Adelaide Oval on 6 December. With more than a week to go, the Australian head coach feels that the side is mentally in the right shape and looks well prepared leading into the second Test of the BGT 2024-25 series starting on December 6.
