Bangladesh Clubs Boycott First Division Domestic Cricket

Clubs in Dhaka, Bangladesh boycott the leagues of first-division domestic cricket over alleged conspiracies. The revelation was made by Rafiqul Babu, the club organizer in Mirpur, Dhaka.

A trophy opening ceremony for the scheduled Dhaka First Division Cricket League 2024-25 was about to be held at the premises of Bangladesh Cricket Board. Several Captains from the 20 participating clubs were present at the venue but event was put on hold.

Reportedly, officials from all cricket clubs listed under Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) announced an indeterminate boycott of cricket leagues.

Clubs Indicated the Threat of Boycott to Authorities

Bangladesh Club officials have earlier shared their concerns over amendments to the constitution which they felt is against their favour.

BCB President and Club Officials Met to Discuss Grievances

While league boycott tensions are mounting in Dhaka, the club officials agreed for a meeting with Faruque Ahmed, BCB President at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

  • Reports claimed that the renowned club manager Lutfur Rahman Badal have put across the further action as a warning to the association.
  • He said that if demands are not fulfilled, they deny to be a part of any cricket. Further mentioned that they are in no way against cricket, but the clubs will participate only after making desired changes.

3 Key Demands Made by the Bangladesh Clubs

  • Club Coordinator Rafiqul Islam firstly asked to scrap the constitutional amendments made.
  • They also asked for an increase in the count of directors in clubs from 12 to 16.
  • Third they asked is the resignation from reform committee head who’s accountable for the proposed amendments in the constitution.

In response, the BCB President agreed upon the club’s concerns and mentioned that he would revert over the concerns after a detailed consideration of all aspects. He further highlighted the significance of Clubs as primary stakeholders fostering the cricket landscape in Bangladesh.
