Ben Stokes is in the headlines due to his recent interview with a British media outlet. Stokes has given a hint on his potential return to red-ball cricket for England in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in Pakistan.
“It’s hard to turn down major events,” Stokes admitted. “If I don’t play another white-ball game, I’ll be proud of what I’ve achieved. However, there might be discussions about my involvement in future events, and I’ll be open to whatever comes,” said Stokes during the interview.
Ben Stokes has been an important figure for England cricket. The 33-year-old retired from white-ball cricket in 2022 but made a U-turn from his decision in 2023 to be part of the ODI World Cup in India.
Post World Cup debacle of England, Stokes again announced his retirement from the limited-over format. However, according to his statement in a recent interview, he might think of coming back out of retirement for the 2nd time.
“Cricket has been my life and my passion, When the time comes to hang up my boots, I don’t envision leaving the game entirely. I’d love to help shape and mentor the next generation.” said the England Test captain in the interview.
Ben Stokes will be next seen in action against Pakistan in a 3-match Test series. The series will be hosted by Pakistan. Pakistan lost a series against Bangladesh at home by 0-2 and hence the the odds on cricket betting apps are in favour of England.
Should Ben Stokes Return to White-Ball Cricket?
Ben Stokes has been a primary contributor to the England cricket team. He led the team in the 2019 ODI World Cup and won the first-ever trophy for the nation. His individual performance was also on par for the team.

However, his return to the white ball cricket in 2023 for England was not a good sight. England failed to make an impact and were eliminated from the tournament at the league stage.
The team finished 7th in the point table with 3 wins and 6 losses at a net run rate of -0.572. Individually, Ben Stokes was also a failure and his stats were not close to his previous performances.

The time has come that the England and Wales Cricket Board should look beyond Ben Stokes for the Champions Trophy. He can become part of the management with newly elected white ball coach Brendon McMullen but as a player, he might disturb the team equation.
