The 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has begun. Bangladesh is hosting the tournament but the fixtures are scheduled to take place in UAE. The decision was taken because of the political turmoil in the country.
A total of 10 teams are participating in the tournament divided into two groups. Out of these two groups, Australia carries their dominance over the tournament winning the trophy 6 times. England and West Indies have won the trophy once.
This year, the speculations are in favour of Australia’s arch-rivals India. Indian women’s cricket team has never won the trophy and they have reached the final once in 2020.
Team India is coming to play in the prestigious tournament after losing out on the Asia Cup trophy against Sri Lanka. It was unfortunate to see a competent and consistent combination of players losing out on a chance to win a tournament.
India’s women’s squad has shown potential in the bilateral series against Bangladesh and they have given a close competition against Australia and England.
