The 18th season of the Indian Premier League is coming closer with every day passing by. Chennai Super Kings, one of the most prominent and the most lethal squads, is all set to be part of another season with a hope to win one more trophy in the league.

IPL 2025 will see some major changes in every squad and in CSK. There are few big names who have left the squad as the management has not retained them. Chennai Super Kings retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni before the IPL mega auctions. They have shown trust in their experienced and core players.

During the IPL 2025 mega auctions, Chennai Super Kings purchased some big names like Devon Conway (Rs. 6.25 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs. 4 crore), R. Ashwin (Rs. 9.75 crore), Noor Ahmad (Rs. 10 crore), and Sam Curran (Rs. 2.40 crore).

They have carefully selected some of the best domestic talent from the draft. Rahul Tripathi (Rs. 3.40 crore), Vijay Shankar (Rs. 1.20 crore), Shaik Rasheed (Rs. 30 lakh), Anshul Kamboj (Rs. 3.40 crore), Mukesh Choudhary (Rs. 30 lakh), Deepak Hooda (Rs. 1.70 crore), and Gurjapneet Singh (Rs. 2.20 crore).

Chennai Super Kings - Squad Strength

The primary strength of Chennai Super Kings lies in their batting unit. They have big names like Ruturaj Giakwad, Devon Conway, and Rachin Ravindra at the top order. The trio is experienced enough to give the team a solid start at the early hours of the game.

In the middle-order, CSK will have Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni. Shivam Dube is the all-time reliable player for Chennai Super Kings and over the time the all-rounder has been a key performer. In recent T20 international fixtures for the team India, Dube has been a consistent performer and he will be able to continue his form in IPL as well.

Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni add extra depth to the lower-order of the team. The duo have an immense amount of experience in T20 format and they both can still deliver the desired results for the team.

CSK - Impact Player

Chennai Super Kings have 3 options for an Impact player. They have Anshul Kamboj in the team who can be used as an impact player in the bowling unit. He was fabulous in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. With immense experience of Indian pitches, Anshul Kamboj can be used as a key to success for CSK.

The other two options for Chennai for Impact Player can be the 33-year-old Vijay Shankar and the 31-year-old Shreyas Gopal. Vijay Shankar had impressive two seasons with Gujarat Titans. He managed to score 301 runs, averaging 37.63 and striking at 160.11. Shankar can also be used as a pacer during the middle overs.

Shreyas Gopal is a leg-spinner, who, if combined with R. Ashwin at the right, can do major damage to the opposition. He also displayed positive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year,

Chennai Super Kings - Weakness

The biggest challenge for CSK team management is to decide the right pace combination in the team. Out of Matheesha Pathirana, Sam Curran, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Choudhary, Nathan Ellis, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Matheesha Pathirana will definitely make it to the team considering his performance in the previous edition of the league.

However, the team might have to choose between Nathan Ellis or Sam Curran in the pace unit. They both have strong credentials, but they both can’t be chosen at the same time. One wrong move, things might go down the hill for Chennai Super Kings.
