DC Team Preview - DC Chances of Winning IPL 2025

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League is gaining momentum. In IPL 2025, we will witness the electrifying clash between ten teams with some of the best quality of cricketers from across the globe.

Delhi Capitals has been an unfortunate team that has never won a single IPL title in 17 years of the league. They have played with some of the best cricketers in the world, but still the franchise has not received the desired results. They have been the runner-ups once in 2020 but failed to lift the trophy after coming so close.

Delhi Capitals have been in the semi-finals twice and thrice in the playoffs and this showcases the strength of the team in IPL. For IPL 2025, they have done some major changes in the squad and in the leadership in order to get the positive results.

As Rishabh Pant has left the franchise to join Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals have appointed Axar Patel as their new captain. There were speculations that KL Rahul would be leading the team but he has turned down the opportunity to focus on his individual performance in the league.

Before the beginning of IPL 2025 mega auctions, the Delhi Capitals team management retained Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. They have focused on building a complete squad with a good mixture of all-rounders during the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

KL Rahul came out as the costliest purchase for the team as he was bought for a price tag of INR 14 Crore. Mitchell Starc was the second most costly purchase for a price of INR 11.75 Crore. These two will be the key players for the team during the league action.

Before the start of the league, Harry Brook, who purchased for a price of INR 6.25 Crore from the auctions, has withdrawn from the league due to personal commitments. The franchise is still in the process of signing a right replacement.

Jake Fraser-McGurk (Rs. 9 crore), T. Natarajan (Rs. 10.75 crore), Ashutosh Sharma (Rs. 3.80 crore), Mohit Sharma (Rs. 2.20 crore), Faf du Plessis (Rs. 2 crore), and Mukesh Kumar (Rs. 8 crore) were the other key purchases for the team.

Delhi Capitals is the only team in the league who has focused more on their bowling unit and made it their primary strength. Their pace unit includes Dushmantha Chameera, Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, T Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar. They all appear to be a dangerous combination of bowlers and outstanding performers. It will be interesting to see how the team management can use all of them at the right place and time.

In the spin division, Delhi Capitals will have India’s top spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and skipper Axar Patel. Their deadly combination in the middle overs will give a tough time to any strong batting unit in the league.

Delhi Capitals’ another strength lies in their top order where Jack Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and KL Rahul will make a formidable lineup. The three are experienced players and can give a solid start to the team against any opposition.

DC - Impact Player

Delhi Capitals will choose their impact player mostly from their bowling unit. Mohit Sharma and T Natarajan are the two primary impact player options for the team. If it comes to the batting order, Sameer Rizvi can be a good option for the team in tough situations.

Out of these three players, T Natarajan showed a positive form in the previous edition of the league. He is experienced and can handle the pressure for the team during the death overs.

Sameer Rizvi is a middle order batter who has done well in Indian domestic cricket. He can score runs with a higher strike rate and can play the role of a finisher as well.

Delhi Capitals - Weakness

The biggest weakness for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 is their unreliable middle order after the exit of Harry Brook from the team. The team will be mostly dependent on Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel for the majority of the score in the middle overs. However, if these two batters fail, they don’t have any backup options in the league.

Another weakness of Delhi Capitals is their spin unit, where they are only dependent on Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav for wickets. Like their middle order, the team management also missed out on signing a reliable back up spinner for the league.
