The year 2024 is turning out to be a year of retirement for some of the best cricketers in the world. Moeen Ali, England’s savage all-rounder, is the new addition to the list as he announced his retirement from international cricket.
In an interview with Nasser Hussain in the Daily Mail, Moeen Ali said goodbye to international cricket. "I'm 37 years old and didn't get picked for this month's Australia series, I've played a lot of cricket for England. It's time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt like the time was right. I've done my part." said Moeen in the interview.
Moeen also mentioned that England Cricket is rebuilding a team for future tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC T20 World Cup 2024. It is the right time to hang up the boots and give the new batch a chance for the senior team.
"I could hold on and try to play for England again, but I know in reality I won't," Moeen said. "Even retiring, I don't feel it's because I'm not good enough — I still feel I can play. But I get how things are, and the team needs to evolve into another cycle. It's about being real to myself."
Moeen Ali was last seen with team England in the recently held T20 World Cup 2024. He was not named in the England squad for the upcoming T20 and ODI series against Australia.
