The Indian Premier League mega auctions took place on November 24 and 25, 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the upcoming edition of the league. Every franchise did extensive research to finalize its shopping list and fulfil its requirements through the auctions.
Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful franchises in the league, were seen actively signing the best players from the draft. They retained their core players which included skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni.
Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad came out as the costliest player for the team with a price tag of INR 10 Crore. The 20-year-old wrist spinner will be expected to add an immense amount of value for the team in the 2025 edition of the league.
IPL 2025 will also mark the homecoming for Ravichandran Ashwin. The Indian spin maestro is coming back to his home team after a decade. He was released from Rajasthan Royals after serving the team for 2 years. Ashwin was signed for a price tag of INR 9.75 Crore.
Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra will be the two Kiwi players who will be seen wearing yellow jerseys. Conway will serve as an all-rounder for the team and Rachin will be expected to be part of the top order for the team. These two players will also take centre stage on the IPL betting online websites.
The Chennai Super Kings management has done a good job while bidding for the right players. However, during the bidding process, they have also committed some mistakes and it might cause them heavy damage in the long run.
In this article, we have done a deep analysis of the mistakes committed by the Chennai Super Kings during the auctions and what kind of impact it can have in the long run.

Chennai Super Kings - IPL 2025 Mega Auction Mistakes
No Back-up Wicket Keeper for MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is a brand name of Indian cricket and Chennai Super Kings. However, the time has come for CSK management to accept that they have to look ahead of MS Dhoni because of his age. He has reached an age where anytime an injury can occur and the team will be left with a void in terms of a quality wicket-keeper. During the IPL 2025 mega auctions, Chennai Super Kings completely missed the point and failed to hire a quality wicketkeeper as backup.
They will have Devin Conway in the team but he is an occasional wicket-keeper. He might not be the right guy for the job and to replace MS Dhoni in the team in case of any emergency. During the auctions, CSK management could have signed a local talent and would have trained him for future challenges.
Signing of Vijay Shankar
It was a very shocking decision when Chennai Super Kings made their bid for Vijay Shankar. The former Indian all-rounder who has displayed an average performance in domestic cricket, was signed for INR 1.2 Crore during the auctions.
Signing an all-rounder in the team is a huge task. Vijay Shankar will give the team depth in their bowling and batting unit but his recent performances showcase his inconsistency.

Over Dependency on Shivam Dubey
Shivam Dube was retained by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025 and this showcases the amount of trust the franchise has in the all-rounder. Dube is known for his power-hitting during the death overs and has the ability to finish the game.
However, Chennai Super Kings didn’t bid for any other option during the mega auctions. They could have bid for another option to take the pressure off Shivam Dube or in case Shivam fails to do the job, they have a replacement ready.
