Estonia's Sahil Chauhan Smashes Quickest T20I Century in Just 27 Balls!

In a spectacular display of power hitting, Sahil Chauhan from Estonia broke the record for the fastest century in a T20 International by reaching the score in just 27 balls in a match against Cyprus on Monday. This achievement broke the previous records set by both Jan-Nicol Loftie (33 balls) and Chris Gayle (30 balls, IPL 2013) making it the quickest century in all T20 Cricket.

Chauhan claimed his century with as many as 18 sixes which also created a new record in itself - the most number of sixes by any player in men’s T20I innings. Within the six-match bilateral series held in Episkopi, he outshined with his brilliant performance from the very first day and aided Estonia to win both the matches against Cyprus.

In the first game, Chauhan played in a rather contrasting way, getting dismissed for a first-ball duck. However, Estonia still managed to win over Cyprus by chasing 195/7. This led to the second match.

Chauhan’s Stellar Performance in Cyprus vs Estonia Match

In the second face-off, Cyprus batted first and scored a respectable total of 191/7. While chasing, the initial overs were unfavourable for Estonia as it lost both openers within the first 8 balls while scoring merely 9 runs. Thereafter, Chauhan made his entry and started delivering back-to-back boundaries, scoring two sixes and a four within the first three deliveries by Buddika Mahesh.

Even after losing core teammates like Stuart Hook and Steffan Gooch, he kept scoring exponentially. By the seventh over, he was at 66 runs for only 17 balls, consisting of five fours and three sixes.

 The Six Hitting Mayhem

The highlight of his innings was in the sixth over where Chauhan reached his fifty off merely 14 balls, hitting four sixes and a four. Even though it was not the fastest fifty in the T20I (a record held by Dipendra Singh Airee with a half-century off nine balls), Chauhan's achievement was still extraordinary.

He continued to hit sixes, with four more off Chamal Sadun in the eighth over, and another three in the next over by Neeraj Tiwari, completing his century. His performance concluded after hitting a four off James Chialoufas’s last ball of the 13th over which completed the chase for Estonia.
