Jamieson Replaces Ferguson for 2025 Champions Trophy

New Zealand is under shock as their campaign for the scheduled Champions Trophy 2025 gets shattered with the star pacer Ferguson moving out of league due to foot injury.

  • The NZ Squad was counting on pacer Lockie Ferguson for his unmatchable experience and bowling grace on fields.
  • He was playing a warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi where he suffered the injury leading him to escape the marquee event.
  • His absence was filled by approval to Jamieson’s name by ICC Event Committee as a replacement in the NZ Squad.
  • Leading 30-year-old-pacer Ferguson who had just made a comeback to international cricket had to fly off Pakistan due to recent injury.

Ferguson’s Setback Turns into an Opportunity for Jamieson

Leg injury of Ferguson was ruled out during the unofficial warm-up match with Afghanistan where he felt discomfort.

  • Management arranged a medical assessment that confirmed he is not fit for the recent tournament. The NZ officials had to make him fly back home for rehab.
  • Head Coach Gary Stead of BLACKCAPS expressed disappointment over this approach.
  • Reports claim that he seemed disappointed over Lockie’s replacement in the squad. He counted him as a valuable bowling asset in the team.
  • Stead further appreciated his performance in the past ICC Tournaments. He also claimed that Ferguson was zealous about contributing to help the team lead in the Champions Trophy too.
  • Kyle was spectacular with his pace, height and bounce as per Gary which made him a crucial player for the tournament.

Despite the disheartening over Ferguson’s replacement, Head coach was optimistic about Jamieson in the squad. He agreed that his bounce and pace skills would sync well in the Pakistan’s field conditions.

Jamieson’s Recent Form in BLACKCAPS Squad

Till date, Jamieson have played over 13 ODIs for New Zealand and was on a recovery mode for nearly 10 months due to the stress fracture in back. He was noted with his glorious return in December 2024 at the time of Dream11 Super Smash.

Jamieson was the second leading wicket-taker of the league with 14 wickets and the 4/12 performance against opponents. He further played good part in For Trophy 2025 and participated in Canterbury’s key matches making him a wise choice for Champions Trophy 2025.

With New Zealand facing a major reshuffle in their squad, fans are eager to see how the team adapts to the challenge. Meanwhile, cricket enthusiasts are also closely watching online cricket betting in India, as the tournament sparks excitement among bettors analyzing team strengths, player performances, and match odds. This shift in squad dynamics has added an extra layer of unpredictability to the event, making it even more thrilling for fans and punters alike.
