Gujarat Titans came into existence in the Indian Premier League in 2022 and won their first title in the same year. They stunned everyone by reaching the finals of the next season but failed to win their title for the second consecutive time.

During the previous edition of IPL, Gujarat Titans came out as one of the weakest teams in the league. They finished at the 8th spot in the point table with 5 wins and 7 losses. Their net run rate stood at -1.603.

The biggest reason for their failure last year was the unexpected trade of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians. His absence left a major void in the team and the newly elected skipper, Shubman Gill, failed to handle the pressure. Before the IPL mega auctions, the Titans retained Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan.

During the IPL 2025 mega auctions, Gujarat Titans were actively looking for the best players from the list of available players. Jos Buttler came out as the most expensive player in the squad with a price tag of INR 15.75 Crore. Former RCB pacer, Mohammed Siraj, has also become part of the squad with a price tag of INR 12.25 Crore.

Prasidh Krishna was the 3rd most expensive purchase from the auctions for a price tag of INR 9.50 Crore. Washington Sundar (Rs. 3.20 crore), Gerald Coetzee (Rs. 2.40 crore), Sai Kishore (Rs. 2 crore), and Glenn Phillips (Rs. 2 crore) are the other key purchases from the auctions for Gujarat Titans.

Gujarat Titans - Squad Strength

Gujarat Titans have one of the best top orders in the league this year. At the start of every game, Gujarat Titans will have Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan at the top. Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler are proven talents. They both have a lot of experience playing in IPL and in the T20 international cricket. There is no way any bowling attack in the league will take them lightly in any situation.

At number 3, Sai Sudharsan has cemented his space because of his performance in the previous edition of the league. He was a treat to watch for the IPL and Gujarat Titans fans, and Sudharsan came out as the leading run-scorer for the team. He was also the 6th highest run-scorer in the league.

Another strength of Gujarat Titans is their spin attack. Indian pitches are always favorable to spin bowlers and hence the Titans will carry the advantage this year. They will have Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar as the two full-time spinners. With these two, New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips can also come in handy whenever the team needs him to bowl.

GT - Impact Player

Gujarat Titans will have to plan the options for their impact players strategically. The team has multiple batting and pace attack options and hence we expect two players out of these segments.

The first option for the impact player for Gujarat Titans can be Mahipal Lamror. He is an all-rounder who can bat in the middle order or can bowl whenever needed. Mahipal Lamror was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad in the previous edition but had very few playing opportunities. However, this year, he can be expected to be used as an impact player by the Titans.

Another option for Gujarat Titans comes from their pace unit. Ishan Sharma, the Indian pacer, who has been part of IPL for a long time, can be used if the pitch is in support of a pace attack.

Gujarat Titans - Weakness

Gujarat Titans is a well-balanced team with multiple T20 stars in the squad. However, they have failed to bring in some strong names in their middle order. The Titans will be largely dependent on Glenn Phillips to perform and score quick boundaries in the middle over.

Shahrukh Khan is another name, but he has been a failure. He has no depth left and the player has missed out on performing during the pressure situation. Shahrukh is unreliable and can’t be trusted during the league.

Gujarat Titans will have to figure out the best playing combination for the middle order. As the time passes by in the league, Gujarat Titans might use Anuj Rawat, but except for him, they don’t have any other backup options.
