Hampshire have signed Ashutosh Sharma for the men's Metro Bank One-Day Cup, the club announced on Monday (July 20). The 27-year-old plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, and they are co-owned by Hampshire owners GMR.
Ashutosh has scored more than 375 runs for Delhi Capitals across the last two IPL seasons, with a batting average of 31.25 and a strike rate of 170. Source A says he scored 350 runs at a strike-rate of 170 across IPL 2025 and 2026.
He also holds the record for the fastest T20 fifty by an Indian player, having reached the mark off just 11 balls for Railways against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2023.
"We're really pleased to sign Ashutosh for the One-Day Cup," Hampshire director of cricket Giles White said. "He is a player of great potential and has done well for Delhi Capitals in the IPL recently so knows what it's like to perform to a high standard.
We look forward to welcoming him into the group and seeing what he can do in a Hampshire shirt as we look to go one step further than last year in the competition."
Domestic Track Record and Previous UK Club Experience
In List A cricket, Ashutosh has scored 458 runs in 21 matches and has taken six wickets. He began his domestic career with Madhya Pradesh in 2017 and has featured in 91 matches across three formats, and currently plays for Railways.
He has played club cricket in the UK before, representing Middlesex Titans in 2017, Gravesend in 2022 and 2023, and Wigan in the Liverpool League last year. It adds that he made waves in the UK in 2025 by scoring a century for Wigan just hours after landing in the country.
Hampshire were the losing finalists in last season's One-Day Cup, and their opener for the 2026 tournament is against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Tuesday. Ashutosh was first picked up by Punjab Kings, made his league debut as an Impact Substitute and smacked 31 off 17 balls, before being signed by Delhi Capitals for INR 3.80 crore ahead of IPL 2025.
