IPL 2025 - List of Retained Players

IPL 2025 mega auction is scheduled to take place between December 2024 and January 2025 window. The dates are yet to be finalised but all the franchises are in the process of finding out the best quality of players for their team.

As the mega auction dates approach, every franchise is also working to retain its primary players. According to the IPL rules, every franchise can retain 4 players. They can either go with 2 Indian players and 2 foreign players or 3 Indian and 1 foreign player.

The retention of the players depends upon the previous performance and the current form of the player. Most franchises go with the loyal players of the team who have been in good form in the last year in T20 leagues and in international cricket.

The IPL betting will be in the spotlight again and we will provide you with the best IPL predictions for IPL 2025.

In this article, we bring you a probable list of IPL 2025 retained players by respective franchises before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

1) Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the start-studded teams in IPL. However, even after having the best quality of players, Bangalore has failed to win a single IPL edition.

This year as well, RCB is expected to retain their star players like Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj. Virat has been a loyal player for Bangalore and Siraj has performed well enough in the last year to get retained by the management.

The franchise might also retain Will Jacks and Cameron Green. Their presence will boost the all-rounder segment of the team. The duo played exceptionally well in the previous edition of the league and hence a retention can be expected.

2) Kolkata Knight Riders

The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will be critically scrutinising their weak players and will be asking them to leave the squad. KKR had a good outing last year and on top of it, their star players performed exceptionally well.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer and ferocious Rinku Singh are expected to be retained by the management. In the foreign quota, we might see the West Indies stars Andre Russell and Sunil Narine be part of the team as well.

The rest of the squad will revolve around these four players for Kolkata Knight Riders.

3) Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants had a good run in the first two seasons of their IPL journey. However, things went down in the previous edition of the league. The rumours are that there is a major rift between skipper KL Rahul and the owners of the franchise.

Since the team has failed to reach the finals in all three seasons, the management might think of complete change. They might just retain Marcus Stoinis and Mayank Yadav from the list and the Giants are expected to be very active during the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

4) Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals were in the news in the previous season of the league because of the return of their captain Rishabh Pant. However, they also made headlines at the later stage of the league because the team failed to reach the playoffs.

The Capitals have failed to lift the trophy like the Royal Challengers Bangalore event after having multiple stars of international cricket. David Warner was a failure again for the 2nd consecutive time and he is expected to be released from the team.

However, the franchise will retain 3 Indian stars - Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. They might not retain any foreign players. Team management might look for new names in the foreign quota.

5) Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans is a team that made headlines with their performance in the first 2 seasons. However, IPL 2024 was a major debacle for the franchise. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill the team was a complete failure.

Shubman Gill might continue to lead the team because his performance has been at par. They will also have Rashid Khan, Mohammad Shami, and Sai Sudarsan in the team.

Rashid Khan is currently recovering from his back injury but by the time the IPL 2025 season begins, he will be available to be part of the team.

6) Chennai Super Kings

For the 2nd time in the history of IPL, Chennai Super Kings appointed a new leader for the time but failed to defend the title. However, the team narrowly missed on to qualify for the playoffs and hence the management will be happy with the performance of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

There is still no confirmation of the availability of MS Dhoni and hence he might not be on the list of retained players. Ravindra Jadeja is definitely part of the list because he is a match-winner for Chennai.

Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana might also get retained by the team management in the foreign quota. Except for these three players, we might not see any other retention with Chennai Super Kings.

7) Mumbai Indians

The 5-time IPL winners have not had a good time in the tournament for the past 4 years. They have been in the news for all the wrong reasons and their move to trade Hardik Pandya in the previous season turned out to be a horrific mistake.

Even though Hardik Pandya failed to perform, the franchise might give him a chance for his loyalty. They will also retain Rohit Sharma and Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Their foreign quota might not see any retention, but during the auction, they might purchase some of the best players from the list.

8) Punjab Kings

One of the biggest challenges for Punjab Kings will be to fill the void made by Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement. The fearless batsman won’t be seen with the Punjab camp anymore and the team might be actively looking for a solid replacement.

Punjab Kings won’t retain much of their squad except two names - Shashank Singh and Sam Curran. Shashank Singh was their match-winner on multiple occasions in the previous season of the league.

Sam Curran has performed well enough in international cricket to get retained by the management.

9) Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have been in good shape for the past 2 seasons. They were the runner-ups in IPL 2023 and reached the playoffs in IPL 2024.

The credit for these consistent performances goes to Sanju Samson and hence the management won’t let him go. They also have youngsters Yashaswi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag to look forward to.

Jos Buttler will also make it to the retention list in the foreign quota.

10) Sunrisers Hyderabad

It looks like Sunrisers Hyderabad have finally managed to revive their quality of cricket under the leadership of Pat Cummins. The runner-ups of IPL 2024 will have him retained and lead the team in the next season as well.

The management will also have Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in the team. The biggest fight will be to either retain Heinrich Klassen or Nitesh Reddy. In any case, if the management decides to let go of one of the players, they might purchase him from the mega auction.
