IPL 2025 News - Dale Steyn Steps Down as SRH Fast Bowling Coach

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has announced his departure as the fast bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of IPL 2025. Steyn, who played for teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, and SRH during his IPL career, shared his decision on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, October 17. While he will not return to the IPL next season, Steyn will continue his coaching role with SRH’s sister franchise, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, in SA20, aiming for a third consecutive title.

In his message, Steyn expressed gratitude to SRH for his tenure, saying, “A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa. Two-time winners here, let’s try to make it three in a row.”

Steyn took on the role of SRH's fast bowling coach in December 2021 and served the team for three seasons. Under his guidance, young talents like Umran Malik rose to prominence, with Malik claiming 22 wickets in IPL 2022 and earning a call-up to the Indian national team. In IPL 2024, Steyn worked closely with Australian captain Pat Cummins, who led SRH after being signed for a record-breaking INR 20.50 crore.

Steyn's contributions to SRH's bowling unit have been instrumental, and his departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the franchise. However, his continued involvement with Sunrisers Eastern Cape ensures his coaching legacy will persist in the SA20. According to cricket betting experts, Steyn's departure is a big loss for SRH. He was a highly respected coach who had a lot of experience and knowledge. His guidance was invaluable to the young bowlers on the team.
