IPL 2025 - One Player from Each Team Who is Probably Getting Retained

The day has come when all the franchises in the Indian Premier League will release the list of players who are getting retained for the IPL 2025 season. IPL mega auction 2025 is scheduled to take place very soon and we expect some major changes in the squad.

BCCI has made some changes in the retention rule recently. According to the new rule, all the franchises are allowed to retain 6 players with the RTM rule. For example, a franchise can retain 5 players and 1 through the RTM process or they can retain 3 players and retain the rest 3 through the RTM process.

The new retention slabs as per the rule are 18 cr, 14 cr, 11 cr, 18 cr, 14 cr, and 4 cr (uncapped). However, the franchise has a free hand to pay more amount than the minimum slab.

In this article, we have selected a single player from every IPL franchise who will probably get retained for the IPL 2025 season.

1) Hardik Pandya - Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya made headlines in the previous edition of the league for all the wrong reasons. At first, the management made an expensive trade for him from Gujarat Titans and gave him the captaincy of the team for IPL 2024. However, the decision turned out to be a big mistake and the franchise went through a nightmare.

Even though Hardik Pandya as a skipper has been a failure but Mumbai Indians won’t let him go considering his performance in the T20 international cricket in the last few months.

2) MS Dhoni - Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won’t let go of their star player MS Dhoni in any scenario. Since the beginning of IPL, MS Dhoni has been a brand ambassador for the franchise and after 16 seasons of the league, he still has the same value.

In the previous edition of the league, Dhoni was ferocious from the lower end. He performed like he did in old times and there is no doubt that his presence in the team is always an advantage for the franchise.

3) Virat Kohli - Royal Challengers Bangalore

Like MS Dhoni, India’s modern-day batting legend, Virat Kohli is a brand ambassador of Royal Challengers Bangalore. The franchise won’t be losing their leading run-scorer.

Virat proved his worth for the team in the previous edition. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament and won the Orange Cap. There are also rumours that Virat is also expected to lead the team once again in IPL 2025.

4) Varun Chakravarthy - Kolkata Knight Riders

One name that will go down the history books of Indian cricket will be Varun Chakravarthy. Varun made a memorable comeback to team India in the T20 format after a brilliant performance in the previous edition of IPL.

Varun Chakravarthy was the 2nd highest wicket-taker in the league and one of the coconspirators for the team to lift the trophy. Kolkata is all set to defend the trophy this year and they won’t let go of their asset.

5) Travis Head - Sunrisers Hyderabad

Australia’s savage T20 batsman - Travis Head, was the perfect purchase for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. He turned out to be the leading run-scorer for the team and the management will retain him at any cost.

Head has also continued his scoring momentum in the T20i cricket. The SRH management will take that into account and will offer the best price possible to retain Travis Head.

6) Sanju Samson - Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals management has indirectly confirmed the retention of their skipper Sanju Samson. They have posted a picture of the player with coach Rahul Dravid and RR’s Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara.

Sanju is a T20 specialist batsman who is well aware of the expectations of the management. He has also done well in the T20 international cricket this year and the skipper has a bright future with the franchise.

7) Kuldeep Yadav - Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have failed to win a single trophy since the beginning of the league. However, they boast a strong lineup of players historically. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav will be a sure short-retained player.

Kuldeep’s retention will come on the basis of his performance in international cricket. His consistency has been the key for Team India and Delhi Capitals will expect him to continue the momentum.

8) Shubman Gill - Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans missed out big time to reach the playoffs of IPL 2024. However, their newly elected skipper, Shubman Gill, turned out to be the right choice. The management is expected to continue with the same leader for IPL 2025.

Shubman Gill has played less T20 international cricket but his talent is undeniable. As an opener and a skipper, Gill will prove out to be a crucial player for the Titans in IPL 2025.

9) Mayank Yadav - Lucknow Super Giants

During IPL 2024, India discovered another young speed star  - Mayank Yadav from Lucknow Super Giants. His speed was a surprise for a lot of batters and that made him a key player for the team.

Mayank got injured very early into the season but the impact he made for the franchise led him to get his maiden T20i cap. Lucknow Super Giants are all set to retain Mayank Yadav for IPL 2025.

10) Arshdeep Singh - Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings won’t let go of Arshdeep Sing in any scenario because of his performance for Team India in the last one year. Arshdeep has become a T20 specialist pacer for Team India and he has been an individual contributor.

There is a high possibility that Punjab Kings might also retain Shashank Singh but Arshdeep is definitely playing for the Kings in IPL 2025. He is a death over specialist who can win matches for the team in any situation.
