Rajasthan Royals have come out as one of the most unfortunate teams in the Indian Premier League. They won the only IPL trophy in 2008 but since then the franchise has been a failure. They did come close to lifting the trophy on multiple occasions but came out as the chokers in crucial games.
In the previous edition of the league, Rajasthan Royals finished their league stage at the 3rd spot with 8 wins and 5 losses. Their net run rate stood at +0.273. Rajasthan Royals qualified for the playoffs and faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game. They scored a comfortable win against Bangalore and proceeded to play the Eliminator round against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Things worked against the franchise in the Eliminator fixture as the team witnessed an unfortunate loss. They were eliminated and failed to reach the final game.
Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma. The rest of the team was built around these 5 players during the mega auction.
Jofra Archer (Rs. 12.50 crore), Maheesh Theekshana (Rs. 4.4 crore), and Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs. 5.25 crore) were the crucial purchases from the auction by the Royals. These three will be the key players for the team in the bowling unit.
Rajasthan Royals signed Kumar Kartikeya who is a well-known face in India’s domestic cricket. He was the 2nd highest wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Considering his experience in domestic cricket, he will be playing as a full-time spinner for the team.
