After an absence of eight years, the ICC Champions Trophy has returned and what a tournament it was with 15 high quality games concluding with India beating New Zealand in Sunday's final.
All the attention of the cricketing world now switches to the 2025 Indian Premier League which will be the 18th edition of the competition!
The IPL begins on Saturday 22 March with last season's winners Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru before Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are in action the following day.
Below, we look at the top performers from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and see what we expect them to produce at the IPL.
The Leading Batters
Rachin Ravindra
The New Zealand wonderkid finished as the leading run scorer in the Champions Trophy and as the only player to hit two centuries. Not a bad return considering he missed the opening game of the tournament through injury!
Now the 25 year old batting all-rounder needs to produce the same levels for CSK in the IPL, a tournament which he struggled to make a big impact in last year.
Tournament | Runs | Average | Strike-Rate | Highest Score |
2025 Champions Trophy | 263 | 65.75 | 106.47 | 112 |
IPL | 222 | 22.20 | 160.86 | 61 |
Shreyas Iyer
Finishing with a winner's medal and only 20 runs from the leading run scorer in the tournament, it was a more than satisfying Champions Trophy campaign for the 30 year old.
The right-handed top order batter now will turn his attention to captaining Punjab Kings and building on his return of 21 IPL half-centuries.
Tournament | Runs | Average | Strike-Rate | Highest Score |
2025 Champions Trophy | 243 | 48.60 | 79.41 | 79 |
IPL | 3127 | 32.23 | 127.47 | 96 |
Ben Duckett & Joe Root
Although it was a tournament to forget for England, the left-handed Duckett and the experienced Root both finished with 225+ runs at an average of 75.00+.
Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, neither are appearing in this year's IPL!
Virat Kohli
Still regarded as one of the world's best, the former India captain was there when it mattered with scores of 100 not out against Pakistan and 84 versus Australia in the semi-final.
He is the all-time leading run scorer in the IPL and secured the Orange Cap in last year's competition. Kohli is showing no signs of slowing down and now he just needs to secure the winner's trophy for RCB!
Tournament | Runs | Average | Strike-Rate | Highest Score |
2025 Champions Trophy | 218 | 54.50 | 82.88 | 100* |
IPL | 8004 | 38.66 | 131.97 | 113* |
The Top Bowlers
Matt Henry
The right-arm pace bowler sustained a shoulder injury in the semi-final against South Africa and was visibly upset when he revealed he would be unable to play in Sunday's final.
He has not been picked up for this year's IPL and with only two wickets previously in the competition, it is hardly a great surprise.
But in his current form, would he have been a good option for a team like Rajasthan Royals?

2025 Champions Trophy | 10 | 16.70 | 18.80 | 5/42 |
IPL | 2 | 90.50 | 51.00 | 1/28 |
Varun Chakravarthy
It did not quite happen for the spinner in the 2022 IPL but he took 35 wickets across the two seasons prior and has taken 41 wickets across the last two campaigns!
He now has immense self-belief in his own ability which should be good news for his new skipper Ajinkya Rahane who will lead him for KKR this year.

2025 Champions Trophy | 9 | 15.11 | 20.00 | 5/42 |
IPL | 83 | 24.12 | 19.10 | 5/20 |
Mohammed Shami
After so long out through injury, a five-wicket haul, nine dismissals in total and a winner's medal would have been a big ask but that's exactly what Shami produced during the Champions Trophy.
He'll be with Sunrisers Hyderabad this season and after missing the 2024 IPL will be determined to build on his 2023 campaign which saw him win the purple cap with 28 wickets!

2025 Champions Trophy | 9 | 25.88 | 27.33 | 5/53 |
IPL | 127 | 26.86 | 19.10 | 4/11 |
Mitchell Santner
The left-arm spinner bowled the most overs of any of those to take 9+ wickets in the Champions Trophy and as captain he is likely to feel Sunday's defeat in the final more than most.
But after taking five wickets across the semi-final and final, including dismissing Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer on Sunday, plenty are predicting this will be his strongest IPL to date with Mumbai Indians looking forward to having his services.
