BCCI and the IPL committee have decided to split the ten participating teams into two groups for the upcoming season. This will change the dynamics of the league stage and it will also limit the fixtures between the teams of different groups.
The decision was taken in order to reduce some fixtures and keep the whole tournament for 74 matches. IPL 2025 will operate in a round-robin format. The teams of the same group will meet twice and once with the team from a different group.
In order to keep an eye on the total number of matches, two groups were formed. It will also keep things simple for the play-off stage. The top four teams from the point table will qualify for the playoff round and two out of the best 4 teams will be part of the final fixture.
How Are Two Groups Formed in IPL 2025?
All ten teams need to have equal opportunity and the same has been taken into consideration while dividing them into two groups. The two groups are formed on the basis of the total number of IPL titles, the total number of final appearances, and the total number of appearances in the playoffs.
It is because of the same reason, that the top two teams in the history of IPL, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are in different groups. These two heavyweights will meet once in IPL 2025 and the betting websites in India will have multiple betting odds on the match. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are also in the different groups. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are also in the different groups. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants are the four teams that have never won a single IPL title but they have been arranged with their respective groups taking their playoff appearances into consideration.
